I drive to Newcastle two or three times a week. I am concerned that the number of trucks using Nelson Bay Road will be increased significantly if Macka's sand Proposal is accepted by your Department.
Forty eight trucks in a one hour period is a significant increase and could cause major delays and dangerous driving conditions on a road that is single lane in many places and is not equipped to deal with this amount of traffic.

We live in the first property on the exit of the Paul's Corner round about heading to Newcastle.
The speed in which cars and trucks enter and leave the roundabout is disturbing. We know that the traffic moves fast along that stretch because it is a favourite spot for speed cameras.
For us to pull out of our drive way safely is almost impossible now, to enter our driveway is even more so.
The diesel vehicles (trucks) leave a residue on the road which is not an issue till we receive rain, then the moisture added to the residue makes the road excessively slippery and once you combine the speed of the travelling vehicles it dangerous.
The roundabout was resurfaced not because of pot holes there weren't any so it must have been because of the amount of accidents due to the residue.
You only hear of the accidents that require police to attend. You don't however hear about the cars that slide off the road and into the gully that get pulled out by the tow trucks because the police are not called unless there are usually two or more vehicles involved.
Our children used to attend the Salt Ash Public School which is walking distance but they were never allowed to cross that rd even at the safety Island without a teacher or Adult present due to the speed of the traffic exiting the roundabout.
If you changed the roundabout to a set of lights or put in an overhead walk way to ensure our next generation of children being safe that would be the ideal..... but I don't suppose that is even a consideration so the cheapest way around this to keep our children safe and our family as we enter and leave our property would be to put in a 60 kilometre zone from Nelson Bay side of the Lemon Tree Passage Rd round about through to the Newcastle side of the Paul's Corner round about. We have included a couple of photos of our gully at times when cars have slipped off the road I have not taken pictures of all the accidents as sometimes we too busy trying to help people but we can tell you that they have in fact gone through the gully up and over our driveway and only stopped because they hit the telegraph pole had we been getting out of our car to open the gate God forbid who knows. They have slipped off the road gone through the gully and knocked down our ten foot brick wall.
The RMS has a responsibility to ensure safety on our Roads please don't let this happen without doing something to keep us safe.
