In the proposal the area of operations of the present quarry is set to be expanded by 256 Ha, this would increase the size of the disturbance by about 80% above its current area. The area surrounding the present site is forested and adjoins the Bungonia National Park. We live within 3km of the quarry and also back on to the National Park. On our property and in the park we have seen a number of koalas (classified by the Australian government as "Vunerable" in NSW), glossy black cockatoos (which are "one of the more threatened species of cockatoo in Australia and are listed as a vulnerable in NSW" - Department of Environment and Heritage), sugar gliders, feather-tailed gliders, yellow tailed black cockatoos (whose numbers are also in decline across NSW due to habitat loss) as well as several species of wallabies (red-neck and swamp), wallaroos, many wombats and countless other small birds and native animals. Habitat loss is the major cause of concern for all of these vulnerable species and a loss of yet another 256Ha is a concern. It is of particular concern for the large parrots and possums who require old trees with hollows in order to reproduce. Rehabilitating the area afterward will not replace these trees which take hundreds of years to reach the size where they will provide appropriate nesting opportunities for these animals.

We staunchly oppose this proposed expansion on the basis of Boral’s indicated and published truck movement figures showing planned increases in heavy vehicle movements on South Marulan road. See attached letter and details.
