I support the extension of the Maules Creek coal mine operations until 2044 as it will directly and indirectly benefit myself, my family, my community and the national economy. This project will ensure that over 900 jobs are secured for another generation. Our salaries will continue to be paid and spent in the local region and more importantly allow the cost of living crisis to be subdued even longer.
I am a proud community member, volunteering with many local sporting organisations. This will directly benefit these clubs for years to come. This project should be an easy decision to make, we are here already, we are operating safely and we are adding to the sustained growth of the North West NSW.

I am in support of this Project as it represents a balanced development that maximises benefits from within existing mining tenements whilst minimising impacts by utilising current mining disturbance footprint.

I not only work at the mine but live locally to Gunnedah. The mine creates jobs and significantly helps the local economy, this project would help secure our way of life for another decade. If we don’t mine the coal here, the world market will simply find another source overseas with lower quality coal. We might as well reap the benefits and help the Australian economy. I would like to see more local investment in the local schools and GP services in Gunnedah by Whitehaven though, as they are both oversubscribed at the moment and it is hard to get good basic healthcare or into schools for families working at the mines.

Without the approval of projects like this, people in small rural communities' futures look bleak and without prosperity. Mining allows the ordinary Australian to make a decent wage and have a quality of life that without mining would not be achievable in rural areas. I am an indigenous man who grew up in the local area, and speaking from a perspective of an indigenous man Whitehaven do a brilliant job at inclusivity and engagement with local aboriginal people. Without mining in this region many local business's, local families, local jobs and the small rural towns that mining is supporting will suffer greatly.

I have been proudly employed by Whitehaven Coal (WHC) for the past 14 years, commencing my career with the company at Narrabri Coal Operations in 2012. Over this time, I have had the opportunity to work across all of WHC’s operational sites in both New South Wales and Queensland.

In 2012, I relocated to the township of Gunnedah, where I purchased a farm and raised my family. In 2024, I moved to Brisbane to provide greater support to our Queensland operations, particularly at Blackwater and Danuia. My work currently spans both NSW and QLD, allowing me to see firsthand the consistent culture, operational standards, and community engagement efforts that WHC implements across all sites.

Having worked in the mining industry for over 20 years—including time spent with several other major mining companies—I can confidently say that I am proud to be part of WHC. The company not only manages its operations responsibly, but it also actively supports the communities in which it operates and places genuine value on its people.

I have observed the same positive mindset and strong culture take root at WHC’s newer Queensland operations, along with significant and ongoing support for local, often remote, communities.

For these reasons, I fully support the approval of the Maule’s Creek Continuation Project. I believe this project will bring substantial long-term benefits to the local community, including job creation, economic growth, and sustained investment that regional areas depend on.

Being an Whitehaven employee and living within the Gunnedah community, I can see how important a contribution Maules Creek makes to the economic well being of the community through direct employee of local people, through economic activity of suppliers and financial support to community groups and events. This was so clearly highlighted during the 2019/2020 drought and the early effects of Covid19.

I would like to express my strong support for the Mules Creek Project, particularly from a community perspective.

This project holds great promise for delivering long-term benefits to the region through local job creation, increased economic activity, and meaningful partnerships with local businesses and service providers. It is a significant step toward ensuring continued investment in the local economy while promoting responsible resource development.

The Mules Creek Project has been designed with a clear focus on environmental stewardship, cultural respect, and community engagement. By incorporating feedback from traditional owners, landholders, and local stakeholders, the project demonstrates a genuine commitment to listening to and working with the people who matter most.

I am writing to express my strong support for the Maules Creek Continuation Project. This project is vital not only for the economic and social wellbeing of our local region, but also for maintaining Australia’s role as a responsible global energy supplier.

The continuation of operations at Maules Creek will sustain hundreds of local jobs and support regional businesses, with Whitehaven Coal demonstrating a strong commitment to local employment and community investment. The proposed environmental initiatives, including the creation of over 2,000 hectares of native woodland, reflect a genuine effort to balance development with ecological stewardship.

Importantly, this project also has broader global implications. If Australia, with its high environmental, safety, and governance standards, does not supply high-quality thermal coal to the international market, that demand will not disappear. Instead, it will be met by producers in jurisdictions with significantly lower environmental and social standards. This would result in higher global emissions and poorer outcomes for both people and the planet.

By continuing to export responsibly mined coal, Australia can help ensure that global energy needs are met in a way that is more environmentally and ethically sound. At the same time, the revenue generated supports our economy and funds public services.

In conclusion, the Maules Creek Continuation Project represents a responsible and necessary step forward. I urge the Department to approve the project in recognition of its local and global benefits.
