I support the Maxwell Underground Mine (MOD2) - Mining Optimisation Modification, the mine has a range of economic benefits for the local community and state. Importantly the changes to the mine are aimed at enhancing safety which is an important consideration for employees and families, it is pleasing to see Malabar take this positive step.

I support the Maxwell UG Project and this Modification application. The project has a range of benefits for the local and state economy and as stated in the documentation this modification is aimed at enhancing safety and lowering overall costs, these improvements will support the long term sustainability of the mine providing additional certainty that these economic benefits will be delivered over duration of the project.

Blackrock Industries would like to express our support of Malabar Coal’s proposed modifications to Development Consent SSD - 9526 - MOD - 2 for the Maxwell UG Project.
In our opinion the proposed changes within the approved Development Application area represent no significant impact on existing mine rehabilitation, environmental standards, surrounding residents, or the proposed mining operations as a whole.
This project will deliver significant financial benefits to local businesses and the community as a whole, and bring a much needed boost to community/business/workforce confidence in these times of resources industry uncertainty.
Malabar have already proven to be a generous and committed supporter of local community organisations and the indigenous community including participating in the Second Chance for Change indigenous inmate employment and training program.

As mining is a large pert of the community and the potential of other sites to be closed it will help with new employment and less out of work locals. The company is very supportive in the local community with a lot of sponsorship. The company also appears to have the environment and the local community wellbeing in their best intrest

Muswellbrook pistol club definitely supports Malarbar Coal they have sponsored our club over the last 5-6 years
Without companies like Malarbar there would be a lot less sports able to operate
I am also in other clubs in town all sponsored by the local mines in our area
I my self are fifth generation born in Muswellbrook
And been lucky to have had mining support from school sport and an apprenticeship in the local area with full time employment after finishing
As well they are always helping out in the local community with that many I would be unable to mention
With Malarbar being able to operate it will bring new people to the area which has a flow on affect with shops in town sporting club numbers and many other organisations picking up members like the local fire brigade the SES local bush fire brigades
With Malarbar operating for many years this will be an amazing time for the next lot of mechanical and electrical apprentice to get a trade on top of all the other highly skilled work force that come with mining as well as uni scholarships that are also offered by mining companies
Mining is going to be around for a long time to come with a lot of money going back to our government to help bay for all the essential’s services we all expect
Malarbar has always helped our club when needed and are very easy and friendly to talk to which gos along way with me personally
I am looking forward to the day they are finally operating because I know they will be putting back in the local community that I care for so much were ever they can
Being an underground mine there will be no visual impact or any other impact of any type so it’s a win win for all parties involved
It’s not only our club members that benefit from Malarbars ongoing sponsorship the hunter Regonal police security guard and prison guards also use our club when needed for ongoing training
Any other information you need feel free to contact me personally

I resided in the Hunter Valley between 1980-1991 and continue to regularly visit the area. The Hunter Valley region mining operations are critical to ongoing thriving employment in the area. I am also aware that Australian coal production is of a higher quality product and results in far fewer emissions than if sourced from international providers. Reducing our coal exports will have little impact until demand for our high-quality coal subsides, as our export market will only seek their coal from likely inferior production facilities resulting in overall higher emissions globally. I agree with a long-term strategy of sustainable mining that improves our environment and the move towards increased alternative energy sources. However I see little benefit in limiting our coal export if the demand will have a negative impact on the environment.

I am writing to lodge my support for the modification sought by Malabar Resources’ for its Maxwell Underground Project.
This is a sensible modification to an approved project that has been designed so the community can enjoy a much needed economic boost without negatively impacting other local industries and land uses.
I support Mod-2 because the Maxwell project will deliver important benefits for the local community, including 250 jobs during the construction phase and once operational the mine will generate 350 long-term jobs in addition to many more indirect jobs and stimulus for local businesses.
I understand the benefits of the modification include;
• a safer environment for workers
• less use of groundwater for the life of the mine
• a reduction in the duration of mining beneath Edderton Road
• reduction in capital cost
• better gas management strategies including beneficial re-use
The community needs a diverse economy and the Maxwell Underground Project can help make sure our economy prospers for decades to come.
