The above proposal will have a detrimental impact on the enjoyment of my property which lies in the vicinity of the Gas power station.

The Environment planning & assessment act EPAA states in regard to development applications matters to be considered in the assessment include - environmental impact on natural & built environment & social & economic impact.

Pollution, gases, smoke and noise from stacks would definitely impact on the tranquility and our enjoyment of the property as well as our friends and family.

The property value would be adversely effected as the peaceful environment is the reason I bought the property.

It is currently a social, nice quiet community which I enjoy sharing with family & friends. This will take that away.

With the trajectory of the world, technology, and climate change, this project will either be obsolete (and a waste of money, resources, and environment) in the next 5 years, or we will have learned nothing over the coming years, this project will go ahead, and our world (and all of us who live on it) will be facing a deadly and bleak future.

The proposed Marulan Gas Fired Power Stations will have the following negative impacts for residents and the region:
• The destruction of rural landscape for the power station (10-12 hectare per pad) and pipeline construction, both of which are surrounded by properties zoned ‘rural residential.’
• The visual impact of the construction of 8 x 40-metre-high exhaust stacks.
• A potential decrease in value of surrounding properties.
• The unreliability of similar plants, such as the existing Tallawarra plant, which has been known to break down in heatwaves, a common occurence in the proposed area during Summer.
• Adverse visual, noise, and air pollution to nearby properties, including wine and olive growing regions downwind.
• The unconfirmed use of 52.5 ML of water from the Highlands Source Water Pipeline which was intended to be used as an emergency water source for Goulburn in times of drought. The alternative, trucking water into the site is another point of contention in regards to pollution and traffic.
• Despite being marketed as an environmentally friendly option for energy supply, these power stations still contribute around 50 % of the greenhouse gas emitted by a coal fired plant. The world is at a critical point in terms of climate change and these proposed power plants only contribute to its acceleration and degradation of our environment and air quality.
• The destruction of local wildlife and their habitat including endangered species such as the Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater.
• Impact of year-long heavy vehicle traffic along Brayton Road and Canyonleigh Road, with uncertainty around who will be responsible for repairing and maintaining nearby existing roads that may be damaged in the process.
• Possible contamination of the Wollondilly River whilst releasing waste water. Wollondilly River feeds Lake Burragorang, Sydney's major water supply.
• The Energy Australia spokespersons have mentioned needing community support to go ahead with the project, yet we - the local community - are not in support.

Of further concern is the inadequate public consultation and advertising of the proposed development extension, an inadequate period of time and complicated process to make submissions, as well as insufficient links on NSW planning portal website to the Major Projects page. Communication from Energy Australia to the local community has been misleading in nature, including images of renewables, and stating their intention to “look into” various greener alternatives (despite their proposal being identical to the original).

I object to the extension of the lapse date of the proposed Marulan power station and related infrastructure because of a number of negative impacts that the development will have on local communities, the local environment, as well as the global impact of increased carbon emissions that will result from the burning of fossil fuels.
These harmful impacts have not changed since the initial project proposal, however the global context of global heating and climate breakdown has shifted dramatically in the decade since the project was initially approved.
Australia cannot continue to construct new gas turbines, and energy sources other than the combustion of fossil fuels must be constructed. A gas turbine is not the only method through which reliable and variable energy can be provided to meet NSW electricity demand, and available technologies have substantially developed since the initial approval date ten years ago. Fossil fuel based technologies that may have seemed acceptable in 2009 are no longer viable if we are to accept the genuine cost/benefit trade-off, and sincerely consider the externalities of carbon emissions.
In addition to the rapidly changing climate, other local factors have substantially changed since the original development, and some remain unchanged. They include:

I object to having these two gas-fired fuel plants constructed in Marulan - or anywhere. These fossil fuel plants will contribute to greenhouse gas emission at a time when the science tells us that global warming has reached crirses levels. Air quality will be reduced. There will be noise, vibration and possible spills into the Wollondilly River. Our wildlife will be impacted. Construction of these plants will take over one year ,during which time there will be large trucks thundering up and down Canyonleigh Road,increasing the risk of car accidents for residents living in the area, not to mention the increase in road kill. Please do not approve this extension. Energy companies like to call these gas fired plants 'clean energy' - it's not clean!
