The proposed Marulan Gas Fired Power Stations will have the following negative impacts for local residents and the region. The destruction of green space rural landscape which is surrounded by properties zoned Rural Residential. Adverse visual, noise and air pollution to nearby properties, including wine and olive growing regions downwind. These power stations contribute to increases in greenhouse gas emissions. The world is at a critical point in terms of global warming, these proposed power plants only contribute to the degradation of our environment. The destruction of local wildlife and their habitat including endangered species such as the swift parrot and regent honeyeater.
Inadequate public consultation and advertising of the proposed development extension. Inadequate period of time to make submissions. Inadequate links on NSW planning portal website to the Major Projects page. Typing 'marulan' in the search field of the planning portal yields no results.
There are many new residents to Brayton, Marulan and subdivisions along Canyonleigh Road in Wingecarribe shire whom are unaware of the proposed plants.
Impact of year long heavy vehicle traffic along Brayton Road and Canyonleigh Road.
Possible contamination of the Wollondilly River, which feeds Sydney's water supply

I strongly object to yet another gas fired powered plant in NSW because it is economically and environmentally irresponsible.

The proposed Marulan Gas Fired Power Stations will have the following negative impacts for residents and the region:
• The destruction of rural landscape for the power station (10-12 hectare per pad) and pipeline construction, both of which are surrounded by properties zoned ‘rural residential.’
• The visual impact of having 8 x 40-metre-high exhaust stacks.
• Potential decrease in value of surrounding properties.
• The unreliability of similar plants, such as the existing Tallawarra plant, which are known to break down during heatwaves, common in the proposed area during Summer.
• Adverse visual, noise, and air pollution to nearby properties, including wine and olive growing regions downwind.
• The unconfirmed use of 52.5 ML of water from the Highlands Source Water Pipeline which was intended to be used as an emergency water source for Goulburn in times of drought. The alternative, trucking water into the site, is also a point of contention regarding pollution and traffic.
• Power stations such as this one contribute to increases in greenhouse gas emissions, around 50 % that of a coal fired plant, despite being marketed as an ‘environmentally friendly option.’ The global community is at a critical point in terms of climate change. These proposed power plants only contribute to the acceleration of the issue and degradation of our environment and air quality.
• The destruction of local wildlife and their habitat including endangered species such as the Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater.
• Impact of year-long heavy vehicle traffic along Brayton Road and Canyonleigh Road, with uncertainty around who will be responsible for repairing and maintaining nearby existing roads that may be damaged in the process.
• Possible contamination of the Wollondilly River whilst releasing waste water. Wollondilly River feeds Lake Burragorang, Sydney's major water supply.
• The Energy Australia spokespersons have mentioned needing community support to go ahead with the project, yet we - the local community - are not in support.

Of further concern is the inadequate public consultation and advertising of the proposed development extension, an inadequate period of time and complicated process to make submissions, as well as insufficient links on NSW planning portal website to the Major Projects page. Typing 'Marulan' in the search field of the planning portal currently yields no results. Communication from Energy Australia to the local community has been misleading in nature, including images of renewables, and stating their intention to “look into” various greener alternatives (despite their proposal being identical to the original).

My property has been in my family since 1991. It was advertised as 'property of the week' in the back page of the Weekend Australian colour magazine. It was advertised as quiet bushland, full of wombats only 2 hours from Sydney. The proposed power stations, which our property will have a direct view of, go against the quiet nature of the region which three generations of my family have enjoyed in relative peace. The area is abundant with wildlife, clean air, and tranquil bushland. Two years ago we bought an adjoining property, 82 Dairy Road Brayton, where we have an eco-friendly holiday rental retreat called Tea Tree Hollow. Our guests escape Sydney and Canberra to stay in our off-grid accomodation to experience the wildlife and Australian landscape, with no noise or adverse air pollution, the addition of 2 gas fired power stations to our lovely valley spells the destruction of the magic of this area that has keeps our guests coming every weekend.
