I Object to the above submission on the following grounds:
1. The risks of CSG mining are well evidenced and the Premier has acknowledged that the current legislation is not adequate to manage development of the industry. In this context, no new applications or modifications should be approved and existing projects should be frozen, to conduct an investigation into the full impacts of CSG development
2. The drinking water catchment is unsuitable for CSG exploration and production. Allowing this development to go ahead contradicts the pre-election promise from Barry O'Farrell: "The next Liberal/National Government will ensure that mining cannot occur... in any water catchment area, and will ensure that mining leases and mining exploration permits reflect that common sense; no ifs, no buts, a guarantee."
3.The Illawarra Escarpment is a high risk bush fire area, exacerbated by its highly combustible peat base. Indeed, in August 2012 a bush fire burnt through AI09 and AI10 in this project. Extracting and piping gas in this environment will increase fire risks.
4.The development of this coal seam gas project is being layered on top of extensive coal mining and a fault line, without an assessment of the combined impacts.
5.There is widespread public opposition to CSG exploration and mining in the area. This includes a public petition of over 30,000 signatures, formal votes against CSG mining by local councils and two actions opposing CSG development attended by over 3,000 people each.

Attached is my submission opposing Coal Seam Gas and other forms of destructive mining.

I am completely against this insanity. Our drinking water catchment area, our rich agricultural land and native forests all must be off limits to all coal, coal seam gas or any other toxic mining activity. I want to raping of our land to be stopped. There is evidence everywhere where mining has taken place and left the land barren and desolate. Pretty much void of any life.

I don't want our magnificent country to be turned into a moonscape. All this activity is a short term fix.
Solar technology and clean energy is the areas we must invest our money into. With solar technology,
more jobs can be created for "Australians and our magnificent land can remain protect as one of the worlds best tourist havens. Bringing in more money for years and generations to come.

Once again the Govt fails the people of NSW!!! Do they really think that once all the hype died down that they then could go ahead with the CSG Mining.. Is Apex another foreign Country using Australia for what they want? This will be sore note for the Govt is this goes ahead there will be rally's, buring of equipment (CSG Sites) Also methane is one of the chemicals have they ever thourght that the Illawarra is a bush fire hazard and could easily catch fire to a CSG mine.. Lets hope this happens if it goes ahead and then they can be questionable not only for contaminated drinking water, higher sickness rates but also for the loss of workers in coal mines once a fire broke out. Can't they see where they want to drill is right in line with Peabody Coal mine... What are you going to do then! Once again another huge mistake about to happen from our so called GOVT...... Can't wait to vote you all out... Hope you take the first glass of contaiminated water.... !!

I am very concerned about oil and gas prospecting in urban and rural areas. Fracking has been proving to result in health dangers and environmental catastrophes in it's contaminating of water tables across Europe and the United States already. It is not welcome here and any politician supporting it's evil spread, will have no vote of mine.

I am bitterly disappointed the NSW Government is not putting in place proper and strong controls to protect rural land, water catchment areas and environmentally sensitive sites in our state from the disastrous long term effects of CSG exploration and mining. As a senior I won't be around to see the results but my grandchildren and their families will be and I mourn for them and the environment they will inherit.

I object to the application as a local resident of Otford, as I would like to ensure that coal seam gas exploration and extraction is inhibited on the Illawarra escarpment , bushland buffering the Royal National Park and drinking water catchment lands.

I don't want an increase in roads for heavy trucks, or an increase in the risk and intensity of bush fires due to gas escaping.

I would like to object to the above proposal on the following grounds:

1.Development must always be considered in the context of the surrounding area. This can change over time. Given this, a modification for an indefinite start date is irresponsible.

I strongly object to the Apex Gas Exploration Project Modification 2.

I would like to lodge my objection to the Apex/Ormill Coal Seam Gas project in the Illawarra region.I believe that the risk of possible ground water contamination and the general degradation of the environment that such a project would cause are unacceptable.
The extension of the time frame during which exploration and /or drilling could commence is particularly unacceptable as it appears as a deliberate strategy by the company/ies to wait out the current active campaign against CSG which is so dependent on the limited energy and resources of its volunteers and the support of the media in highlighting its case. Once the efforts of these campaigners are exhausted the project will be able to commence with potentially much less attention drawn to its dangerous operations.
the sensitivity of this area to bushfire and the vulnerability that existing mining operations have already imposed on the area make the proposed CSG project even more concerning and increase the need for ongoing detailed investigation into possible risks even more vital.
In lifting the freeze on this and other CSG projects Mr O'Farrell will be betraying his promises to the people of NSW to protect their drinking water and conduct serious ongoing investigations into this industry and its ramifications for his constituents.
In lodging this objection I hereby lodge my disgust with Mr O'Farrell's back flip and askenbuged him to reconsider his position as a matter of extreme urgency.

The decision to renew 22 CSG exploration licences, including water catchments areas, goes against Barry O'Farrell's pre-election promise.

Given that people are not permitted to walk in water catchment areas, I think it's insane to allow CSG drilling in these areas.

I also have concerns about areas such as Darkes Forest, where there was a recent bushfire. Indeed, we are in for a extreme bushfire season this summer.

Chris Hartcher has said that CSG "...activities with unacceptable impacts would not be approved". Given that drilling is permitted in water catchments, I would like "unacceptable impacts" defined!

Our water and agricultural land is more important than mining resources and profits.

People should have also been given more time to voice their approval/disapproval.

Regards,
Nicole Flynn
