The proposed mine expansion should not be assessed as a modification because it differs substantially from the current approved mine. It appears that its purpose is to facilitate a much larger expansion in the near future that surrounds Wollar village. This ‘modification’ proposal should be assessed as a new project.

Message
Inadequate action has been taken by the NSW Government and proponent to identify, quantify and compensate for the cumulative adverse impacts arising from this project and other state significant projects being developed or operating within the Mid-Western Regional Council and adjoining Upper Hunter and Warrumbungle Shire Councils. Significant adverse environmental, social and economic impacts arising from the proposed MOD 3 - Pit 8 Extension have not been adequately assessed and there is a lack of meaningful and accurate detail for the proposed project.
Cassilis, a township approximately 50km from the proposed development, appears to be omitted from any of the studies and reports undertaken for the proposed modification, even though Cassilis and surrounding locality is impacted by Wilpinjong mine socially and economically through employment and service provision.

I would like to express my support for this extension. I have lived in Mudgee for the past thirty eight years and know that Mudgee isn't a mining town but, mining is apart of the town. This extension will provide and support jobs for the locals in the Mudgee area aswell as future donations to support the local community.

I strongly support the proposed modification for Wilpinjong Mine.
As a local resident, I’ve seen firsthand how important the mine is to our community and the surrounding region. It provides stable jobs, supports local businesses, and helps keep our small towns alive. Many families, including my own friends and neighbours, rely on the mine for their livelihoods. The flow-on benefits reach far beyond the site itself, from local suppliers and contractors to schools, sporting clubs, and community services that benefit from the economic activity the mine generates.
I also recognise that the mine operates under strict environmental and rehabilitation requirements, and I believe Wilpinjong has shown a genuine commitment to meeting those responsibilities. The proposed modification doesn’t just extend the life of the mine — it helps secure ongoing investment in the region and allows time for a managed transition in the future, rather than a sudden loss of employment and economic stability.
In my view, continuing the operation under the proposed modification is both sensible and responsible. It supports local families, contributes to state revenue, and ensures the region remains strong and sustainable.
For these reasons, I fully support the approval of the Wilpinjong Mine modification

Wilpinjong Coal Mine Mod 3 – Pit 8 Extension
I wish to lodge an objection to the extension of the Wilpinjong Coal Mine on a number of grounds:
1. It will degrade the groundwater sources that flow to the Wollar Creek.
2. It will release an unacceptable additional 25 MT of Greenhouse Gases
3. It will compete with the Central West Renewable Energy Zone and slow down the region’s transition to clean energy
4. The short term public economic benefits (royalties & taxes) have not been proven to exceed the financial costs of climate impacts

I support the proposed mine modification. The mine plays an important role in supporting both the local Mudgee community and the broader NSW economy. I understand it supplies around 25% of the coal used to generate electricity in NSW, a critical base load source that helps keep energy prices stable and ensures reliability.
On a personal note, I am very concerned about my own energy costs, so it’s important to me that a mine of this calibre continues operating to help keep downward pressure on electricity prices.
I also appreciate that the mine operates under some of the strictest environmental and safety standards in the world. It’s reassuring to know that coal mined here in NSW is produced to a much higher standard than in many overseas markets.

I wish to express my full support for the proposed extension of the Wilpinjong Mine. This project represents an important and sustainable contribution to the ongoing viability of the coal industry within New South Wales and plays a critical role in supporting regional economies.
The mine provides significant employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly, sustaining local businesses and communities that rely on its continued operation. The economic benefits generated through wages, procurement, and associated services contribute meaningfully to regional stability and prosperity.
Furthermore, the financial returns and investment from the mining sector are reinvested into local infrastructure, community programs, and essential services, ensuring long-term benefits well beyond the life of the project.
In my view, the Wilpinjong Mine extension supports a balanced approach to economic growth, employment continuity, and responsible resource development, which are vital to the sustainability of regional New South Wales communities.

I have been at wilpinjong since 2018 as an apprentice to current date as a leading hand(2025). Wilpinjong has always been very supportive to me personally and have seen how supportive they are to the work team and always consider and act on concerns or improvements to the way we work to make sure we all go home at the end of the day. Throughout the mining process during the years as a pit fitter, i have seen the wilpinjong mining process and they have always done a remarkable job to ensure the landscape goes back to the same condition for the rehab process. This extension means alot to me personally as I have recently bought a property in gulgong nsw and I couldn't of achieved that without wilpinjong mine. I fully support the extension and future extensions for wilpinjong

The Mudgee and surrounding communities benefit from the money that the mine gives to continue supporting existing projects and community and sporting activities and fund new initiatives within the community, including providing financial assistant for community events that engage and connect people collaboratively.
A very high percentage of the people who work in the mine moved into the area to specifically work there. By extending the life of the mine, the workers will have greater job security, and not only the employees of the mine will benefit but their whole family and also all the members of the local communities will benefit by not loosing vital resources for the area, which would happen when the number of mining jobs begin to be reduced within the local area. As this would result in a reduction in the number of professional services when the local population decreases. Services, such as a reduction in specialist medical services and also legal practitoners, loss of teachers and other skilled workers who would have to leave the area to seek new employment to support their families. If there are not enough other jobs available to work in their field of education or their trades, this will then also impact on the real estate values in the area if people have to move away to seek employment to support their families, which could mean loss in value of assets if they have to sell the family home to move.
If they have the assurance that the life of the mine will be extended then employees will be less stressed about what is ahead for themselves and their families, therefore feel more secure and valued for the skills they specifically have continued to update for their specific jobs in the mine.

The mine gives me employment and the extension will ensure I can put my girls through school in Mudgee. If we do not get the extension, at some stage, my family and I (including my wife who is a teacher at one of the High Schools in town) will have to relocate to another town. We do not want that because we are in the process of finishing building a house in Mudgee.

This pit extension will help keep both mudgee, the midwestern regional area, and NSW stay financially and electrically robust during the transition to renewable energy. An extension to previously existing project is significantly less harmful to environment and surrounding people in comparison to a new coal mine
