North Penrith Defence Redevelopment - Stage 3A

On page 18 of the EIS dated August 2013, it states that intersection works to accommodate access for semitrailers as part of the future operation of a supermarket has been discussed with council. It was recognised that the proposed widening of the existing roundabout at Coreen Avenue and Combewood Avenue cannot be achieved. Hence the decision to construct a new seagull intersection at Coreen Avenue and the eastern end of Coombes Drive.

My query is how can this construction facilitate semitrailers to the town centre? To do so, such vehicles will need to use the roundabout at Sydney Smith Drive and if so, how will the seagull intersection assist in this regard? Its position would seem to indicate that traffic will be using Coombes Drive for other means than that stated in the EIS. Why would trucks use Coombes Drive to deliver to the town centre? Moreover such an intersection is usually provided in areas of high traffic volume.

With the development of Thornton, there will, of course, be increased traffic using Coreen Anenue, and if Coombes Drive is to be introduced into the equation, we will see more traffic and heavy vehicles on that road.

Coombes Drive services the industrial area and the existing traffic (except for the motorcycle club and hoons) is of little concern. However, should more vehicles be diverted to this road, traffic noise will increase and impact on nearby residents. I am seeking assurance that this will not happen.
