To Whom It May Concern,
I object to the proposed Project Atlas data centre in Kogarah.
This development would place significant additional demand on electricity and water resources at a time when both are under increasing pressure. Large-scale data centres consume substantial amounts of energy and water for operation and cooling, placing unnecessary strain on local infrastructure and potentially contributing to higher costs and reduced resilience for residents.
The scale and industrial nature of the facility would also be visually intrusive and out of character with the surrounding area, diminishing local amenity and the character of the community.
I am also concerned about the environmental impact of such a high-energy development, particularly in the context of climate change and the need to reduce emissions. Projects of this nature should only proceed where there is a clear and demonstrated net public benefit that outweighs these impacts.
Finally, while not strictly a planning matter, I have broader concerns about the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure, including its impact on creative industries through the use of copyrighted works without meaningful consent or compensation. I believe these wider social impacts should be considered when assessing developments intended to support this industry.
For these reasons, I respectfully request that this proposal be refused.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Mason
