I have serious concerns regarding the Sutton Forest Sand Quarry for the following reasons:
We live in a drought prone country. Without water we die. Undoubtedly, the mine will lower the water table and affect local bores and water supplies.
Aboriginal cave paintings are present just west of the proposed pit.
Undisputed health risks from dust and air pollution from mining, crushing and transporting silica rock!!
Disruption to Long Swamp ecosystem home of the dinner plate dragon fly.
Disturbing the peace and tranquility of visitors to The Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy, on the southern border of the proposed mine.
Environmental destruction of the local area and the Great Western Wildlife Corridor with sever impact on endangered species including koalas and back glossie cockatoos.
A mine has no place in the fast growing Southern Highlands.
Not to mention the visual impact!!

I am deeply concerned about the proposal of having 20 per cent of the quarry trucks using the Hoddles Crossing overpass (Hume Hwy/Canyonleigh Rd) to perform a u-turn for all south bound deliveries.

The intersection and immediate surrounds already have a series of dangerous activities with northbound traffic turning right to Eling Forest Winery; south bound traffic turning left to Eling Forest Winery; southbound traffic turning left into the Mackey VC rest area; traffic returning to the Hume Hwy from Mackey VC rest area just in front of traffic trying to exit left onto the Illawarra Highway; traffic trying to turn right onto Canyonleigh Rd from the Hume Hwy exit and traffic turning right to perform u-turns back onto northbound Hume Hwy; traffic turning right and/or left off the Illawarra Hwy and onto the Hume Hwy and; traffic driving to and from Canyonleigh Rd across the intersection.

There is also a school bus stop adjacent to the Hoddles Crossing, on Canyonleigh Road, which several school buses enter and exit from daily.

There is substantial population growth already occurring in the immediate area of the proposed sand quarry, which may not have been envisaged when the quarry was first proposed. There are numerous detrimental threats to the immediate environment (air, water, noise pollution etc) and healthy living conditions for residents and wildlife.
