Teven Rd is already very busy and dangerous I don't think it can cater for more trucks. Last year the local schoolbus was almost hit TWICE by quarry trucks, there have been several accidents and a lot of gravel left on road falling from trucks.The dust levels at my house have never been studied nor the cracking from the truck movements vibrating as they thunder past it. It is very stressful living here and we always have dust allergies and conjunctivitis. The extended hours would really affect our quality of life .The actual quarry itself runs fairly well its just the amount of trucks I am against

To Whom It May Concern,
Hi, my name is Jo Mainprize, I live at 433 Teven Road, with my husband Troy and two daughters.
My neighbor approached me with the recent information sheet from Holcim, regarding the proposed extended operating hours and production increases.
Firstly, I would like to know why, after living here for 3 years, I have never received any information about this proposal at all. My house is clearly visible from the street, I have a letter box, and Boral Quarry from North Teven Road has never had a problem finding my letter box to put their newsletters in.
We purchased this house 3 years ago, knowing that there was a quarry there. The quarry itself doesn't worry us at all, we really don't hear the quarry, but it is the trucks that really bother us at times. We are aware that the quarry must run trucks to operate, and we expect to see and hear trucks between the hours of 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday, but now are advised that trucks will be operating from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and the number of trucks will increase to cover production increases. This will have a significant impact on our lives, as we go to bed early because we both get up early for work. Our bedroom is at the front of the house, and the noise of trucks rumbling past will definitely make it hard to sleep, not to mention our house shaking every time a truck drives by.
I am also worried about the state of Teven road. The surface of the road is already falling apart, for the whole length of our yard, and empty trucks coming past rattle very loudly. Every so often the council will come along and dump a load of gravel into a hole full of water, and by the time the next two trucks have been along, it is spread all over the road, and the pothole remains. The whole length of the road is in very bad shape, and is often very frightening driving along this road when a truck is coming in the opposite direction, trying to dodge potholes, dips, and trucks, one almost needs to be a stunt driver.
The fact that there is nowhere for the school buses to get off the road is also worrying, as my two daughters catch the school bus at the end of our driveway, and I have witnessed a truck having to lock up his brakes so as not to run into the back of the bus, as a truck was coming the other way. It was very frightening, thinking of what could have been. Turning into our driveway while being followed by a truck is another risky task. I often drive along further to Stokers Lane, and turn around, for fear of being hit from behind as I slow to turn in.
Trucks driving past our house, empty, on their way to the quarry are often using their engine brakes, from the front of our house, all the way to the corner. These trucks are empty, there is no need for engine brakes to be used. We have rang the quarry about the engine brakes, but still it is happening, after being assured that they will speak to their drivers.
Some trucks, not usually Holcim's trucks, but the contractors, are driving past our house as early as 6.15am some mornings, and then parking on the cane pad in Stokers lane, waiting for the quarry to open.
I know we are a drop in the ocean, and that Holcim is a large company, so the proposal will more then likely go ahead no matter what, but would it be too much to ask for a slower speed limit for trucks along past the houses, and for the road surface to be repaired and maintained? We are aware the quarry pays
an amount per ton for the maintenance of roads, but I wonder which roads this is being spent on, definitely not Teven Road.
I look forward to your reply,
Regards Jo Mainprize.

We respectfully submit that:
a) The proposed development is not a State Significant Development and should be referred to Ballina Shire Council for determination;
b) The recycling and processing of concrete and the production of asphalt is inconsistent with the definition of extractive industry over part of the land and accordingly the application should be recast to have appropriate consideration of the Statutory Planning situation;
c) The demand calculations relevant to the locality are suggestive on an expansion of up to 27%. It is recommended that the application be scaled back to this quantum; and
d) The application should be amended to be respectful of the Saul family property which immediately abuts the project site, particularly with respect to adverse impacts likely as a consequence of dust and noise concerning that part of the property.
