This Development should not proceed in its present configuration.
The loss of 130 on site parking spaces is short sighted and typical of poor past Civic Developments in the City of Wollongong e.g. a Show ground and Entertainment Centre both without any parking provisions.
The Development should only proceed if redesigned to incorporate a minimum 130 basement or additional floor parking spaces.
The plan to lease parking spaces on the TAFE grounds would be a constant drain on University resources and with the current State Governments desire to divest itself of all public assets could be short lived. Offsetting costs by charging for parking spaces would be unpopular and lead to further loss of amenity by the University's neighbours as employees/students search for free parking options.

The recent development of further on site accommodation blocks without addressing the need for increased parking facilities will further exacerbate this problem.

Whilst appreciating that the University is a major employer and provider of educational services in the Illawarra it should not excuse them from the provision of on site parking requirements applicable to all other major developments throughout the City.
The mooted loss of the free public bus facility can only increase these problems.
Its time for the University to show some leadership and innovation in solving the parking/traffic congestion problems which stem from its ongoing growth in this area.
