BASIX tool upgrades now live

05 May 2026

BASIX

On 1 May 2026, a range of updates were made to the BASIX tool to expand functionality, increase flexibility, and implement important technical updates.

We are aware that some users are experiencing issues with the BASIX tool since the changes came into effect and we are working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.

A summary of the key updates is provided below.

Additional functionality

  • Data is now retained when changing the thermal performance method, for example when a user switches between Simulation and DIY method
  • Help Notes and information links have been updated and improved
  • Certificates and reports for new homes will now show:
    • The thermal performance method on the first page
    • Full details of solar photovoltaic systems for multi-dwelling projects (if applicable)
    • The number of straw bale panels (if applicable)
  • Clearer guidance is now available for completing the materials section for new home multi-dwelling projects that have separate buildings with shared common areas

Greater flexibility

For new homes:

  • Users can now select from different grades of concrete if they have selected low-emissions concrete as the internal wall type
  • For homes in postcode 2015, users can now select the ‘Green Square Town Centre’ option for ‘reticulated alternative water supply’
  • For multi-dwelling projects, users can now request to have up to 1,000 dwellings included on a single BASIX Certificate. These can be a mix of single dwellings, duplexes, townhouses or apartments

For alterations and additions:

  • Expanded glazing options are now available with low solar heat gain coefficient values

Technical updates

For new homes:

  • The BASIX standards version has changed from v4.03 to v4.04 to reflect all the changes outlined, but 'in progress' projects won't be affected
  • For bathroom, kitchen and laundry ventilation systems, there is no longer an option for directing exhaust into the roof space

Other changes

  • Showerheads consuming between 4.5 to 6 litres per minute now appear as 5 stars.
  • For all projects, users must now declare that all the information entered is accurate before generating a BASIX certificate.
