I have previously made a submission to the community advisory committee for this project. My submission was to express my concerns about what I considered was a flawed process followed in this project. I did not receive acknowledgment or reply from that committee.

I have been advised of a proposed 500kV Powerline near Warkworth Airfield. While I understand the need for the mines and others that would benefit from this installation it greatly concerns me regarding my personal safety and those of the pilots and passengers who use Warkworth Airfield.
I am a student pilot learning to fly gliders and am a member of the Hunter Valley Gliding Club which has its base at this airfield. As I am aware the company involved has had no discussion with the Executive of the Club and have simply stated that there will be no impact without understanding the dire ramifications that are involved.
Gliders fly (predominantly) without an engine and many times during take off and landings aircraft can be impacted by down drafts which dramatically cause a drop in height. This is especially pertinent to someone, such as myself who is a student, learning to fly.
Adding addition obstacles such as this, which are often hard to see, and can and will most likely end in fatality if struck. As previously alluded to, gliders do not have the benefit of 'going around' or gaining altitude if the need suddenly arises.
The airstrip is also frequently used by light aircraft practicing landings and takeoffs as part of their training and are not as familiar with the airstrip as would members of the Club.
I am hoping the applicant can take the time to address these safety issues with knowledgeable pilots at the airfield before simply stating there will be no impact.
Thank you
