As it currently stands the Hunter Transmission Project will create a serious hazard to aviation if it is installed close to the Hunter Valley Gliding Club at Warkworth. Because gliding mostly happens without power to quickly make height adjustments, having the transmission line any where close to the circuit area at Warkworth will add a hazard that could potentially cause a fatality. At the least it creates a distraction when the decision making load is high and can contribute to pilot error. Since gliding requires outlanding often, if the powerline sterilizes potential landing sites it also adds to the danger of causing accidents and potential fatalities. all this needs to be seriously considered in the project design and risk assessment.
