I am supporting HVO’s Continuation Project because during years HVO has demonstrated that it is a mining project which has been supporting local communities, schools, businesses, and families. This is not a new mining project, it is an extension of the current one, carried out in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. It is mining project which employ +1,500 people at the site. I have been working at HVO for last 3 years, and I would like to continue working in this mining project.

Without Hunter Valley Operations and its extension, there will be mass job loses not only within the mine but a significant amount of local and Hunter Contractors and businesses will suffer.

HVO supports such a large part of our local Hunter Valley economy not to mention the wider NSW economy through jobs and continued royalties. As a state we have not progressed the reliability of renewable energy to the point where thermal coal will no longer be needed in the short to medium term. Thus continuing to support local companies and employers to produce our raw material requirements makes more sense than having an inferior product being shipped from overseas or in turn over seas producers increasing their outputs from inferior coal because they can no longer import NSW coal.
I support decarbonisation, but at this stage I believe NSW is in a far better position to manage and decarbonise our local coal operations than relying on international coal that does not have the same regualtory standards that our operations adhere to.

Supporting this project gives the workers confidence in their future of employment. It also will support many businesses in and around the valley.
Not supporting this will cause thousands of unemployment.

This project is a key in the continued development of the Hunter valley as it will continue employing 1500 plus people and supporting the national economy with over 1.2 billion in taxes. Even thought this is 100 percent the best decision for the people of the Hunter valley it is without question that the mining company’s in nsw and Queensland have built the country we live in and continue to commit to the Australian people.

I am writing to express my support for the HVO Continuation Project as a local resident of Muswellbrook and an employee of HVO. Living in this community, I recognise the vital role that mining plays in our local economy. The HVO Continuation Project not only provides employment opportunities for many residents of the hunter community but also supports local businesses and services that depend on the economic activity generated by the mining industry.
Over the past eight years, HVO has funded more than 120 local projects with over $500,000, supporting initiatives such as the Cattle Dog Muster, film festivals, and junior sports programs. In 2024 alone, HVO has spent over $1 billion with suppliers and paid $276 million in taxes and royalties which helps support vital health and infrastructure projects across NSW.
Continuing mining operations at HVO is crucial for maintaining job security for myself and my colleagues, as well as ensuring the ongoing prosperity of our community. The HVO Continuation Project's Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) outlines a robust set of environmental controls that will allow the project to proceed with industry-leading environmental stewardship. The proposed final landform includes an best practice rehabilitation strategy that ensures the land will be returned to a safe, stable, non-polluting, and productive post-mining land use, whether as a native ecosystem or farmland. HVO's commitment to rehabilitation is evident, with over 3,000 hectares already rehabilitated to date.
I urge you to consider the positive impacts that the HVO Continuation Project will have on our community and approve the project.
