Mining benefits the community and also benefits the Australian economy. Whilst there is a demand for coal we should capitalise on it and keeps jobs secure

Mt Pleasant is a major source of income for McLanahan where I work. I've had the privilege of working on mine sites all over the world and Mt Pleasant is the best run, cleanest and most well maintained mine I have seen. They obviously take pride in their rehabilitation and presentation of the site and surrounding area as it is always presented well and its a pleasure driving to and from site knowing that they are rehabilitating the area and supporting the community. I really enjoy working with the team at Mt Pleasant and I truly believe that they care about the local environment and it's people.
As I attend site regularly I see all the business that this site engages with and supports. I also know all the additional supporting businesses that we engage with, to support us, to help support Mt Pleasant Mine. The financial reach they have throughout the Hunter and beyond very long.
The approval of the mine extension will help cement our 100 plus workforce that help support the Mt Pleasant Mine Operations and we are just one very small part of the mine's support team.
If the mine is not extended we will have to consider job loses as there is no new mines opening that could replace this work for us.
I'm a big supporter of MACH Energy's approach they have taken to the environment, the local community and businesses of the Hunter Region, they really are the most well run operation I've dealt with.

I strongly support MOD 8, as the continuation of the Mount Pleasant Operation is vital not only for me personally, but also for the broader local community. This project provides essential financial stability for my family, and its ongoing operation will deliver over 1,000 local jobs, with more than 70% of current employees living within the region. Ensuring the project continues beyond 2026 will have significant long term benefits, supporting not just employees, but also the many contractors, suppliers, local businesses and communities whose livelihoods depend on operations such as this one.
MACH Energy’s commitment to the community is clearly demonstrated through its significant investment in local programs, having contributed more than $2 million to sponsorships for schools, sporting clubs, and community organisations. This is particularly meaningful to me as someone who is heavily involved in my local rugby club as a player, coach, and board member. Community sporting organisations simply cannot exist without sponsorship, and MACH’s ongoing support makes a real and tangible difference to clubs like ours and to the local schools and communities who rely on funding from sponsorships such as MACH.
MACH also demonstrates strong support for the local Indigenous community through direct employment opportunities and through contributions to the Aboriginal Cultural Development Fund, which has received $8.4 million to date. This investment promotes meaningful participation, cultural development, and long term economic opportunities within the region.
In addition, MACH has paid over $650 million in royalties to the NSW Government since operations commenced, funds that directly contribute to state infrastructure, services, and economic stability.
Mount Pleasant is also expected to supply a significant portion (approximately 20%) of NSW’s domestic coal demand beyond 2026. With electricity costs and energy reliability already pressing issues for NSW households, the closure of this project would only add further strain to an already challenging environment.
For all these reasons, I strongly support MOD 8. The project contributes to community stability, local economic stability, local employment, Indigenous engagement, and the broader energy security of NSW. Its continuation is essential for the wellbeing of my family, my community, and the many people and businesses who rely upon it.

MPO provides employment for hundreds of locals and helps raise the economical standing of the area. This organisation donates and fundraisers for not only its employees but its local communities and the wider Hunter region. It provides employment opportunities for younger people to set themselves up for their future. A loss for this project will be a loss to all the employees present and future and to the local community.
