I support the MOD 8 develment. THe development of mount pleasant has been positive for local businesses and provides economic bennefits for the community. The effort in designing and maintaining industry best practice for rehab and mining activities has limited the impact on the local community. I fully support the new Mod 8 Development

I support this project on behalf of WNAC as the CEO. We back the project because of its commitment to directly employ Aboriginal people through our Wonnarua Mine Rehabilitation Pty Ltd Company which is 100% Aboriginal Owned with profits going back into community to Close the Gap and the mines commitment plan to procure a large number of seedlings from our Bush Seedling Nursery. Employment and procurement are set to begin with the submission of this support letter in our role to connect to country and care for country/rehabilitation for the life of the mine and future rehabilitation commitment of the sites. We also reserve the right to withdraw our support if mod 8 fails to fulfill its commitments to WNAC and our subsidiary businesses.

!. This huge mine expansion will create 1.5 million tonnes of local greenhouse gas pollution in the next ten years in NSW, and over 100million tonnes in downstream emissions, adding further greenhouse pollution. This will do unacceptable harm and is NOT in the publics or environments interest. Our environment is struggling to cope, as it is.
2. The NSW Court of Appeals Denman Decision made it clear that the local impacts of climate change caused by the downstream greenhouse pollution from NSW coal, have to be considered by planning authorities. As this decision is now in the High Court, acceptance of this application will cause legal and practical confusion.
3. The expansion of this mine is in direct contradiction to the Governments own advice from the NSW Net Zero Commission in December of last year that "continued extensions or expansions to coal mining in NSW are not consistent" with NSW climate law, nor with the Paris Agreement temperature goals.
4. As the people of NSW are already dealing with increasing bills and escalating dangers from climate change fuelled extreme weather, approval would inflict further harm on people, economy and environment.
5. This expansion is NOT a modification. It is NOT "substantially the same development" as the one previously approved (DA92/97), calling it a "modification" avoids independent review.
This project MUST go to the Independant Planning Commission (IPC) for proper assessment.

My name is Sarah and I am a writing in objection to Mount Pleasant Modification 8 proposal. I am a young person who is concerned about the impact coal has on the climate, environment and communities.

The reasons for my objecting to this expansion include:
1.5 million tonnes of localised greenhouse gas pollution will be emitted from this mine expansion over the next ten years, with a further 100 million tonnes in downstream emissions. NSW is currently not on track to meet it's emissions targets, so approving a huge project such as this make meeting the 2030 or 2035 targets ever harder.
The recent court decision (NSW Court of Appeal's Denman Decision) made it clear that downstream greenhouse gas pollution from coal in NSW must be considered by planning authorities in the approval process. The aforementioned amount of pollution should render this project invalid due to the impacts.
Approving the expansion would further exacerbate climate change induced weather events, leading to people such as in the Hunter region being affected by the financial implications of damage from floods or fire. The expansion would inflict harm on communities and the economy.
In a time when NSW is aiming to decarbonize and transition to renewable energy, coal expansions shouldn't be considered.
Thanks for your consideration of my submission.

Regards,
Sarah Brennan

The proponent of this expansion to a coal mine should not be allowed to called this a modification so it can avoid an independent review. Mount Pleasant Modification 8 will
1. Create 1.5 million tonnes of greenhouse gas pollution over the next ten years and a million tonnes of downstream emissions.
2. Increase extreme weather from climate change.
3. Use precious water resources required for towns and agriculture.
4. Goes against the Net Zero Commission's Coal Mining Emissions Spotlight Report 2025 - "Continued extensions or expansions to coal mining in NSW are not consistent with the emissions reduction targets in the Climate Change Act or the Paris Agreement temperature goals it gives effect to."

In 2021, the International Energy Agency (IEA) (of which Australia is a member) stated that to achieve the goal of net zero by 2050 there was no scope for opening new fossil fuel extraction developments.
