I support the HVO Continuation Project. HVO creates many employment opportunities not only through site but by using local vendors to provide labour, parts, manufacturing and specialised services.
The commitment HVO has to bettering the community in which it operates creates many benefits for local groups, schools and community organisations with incentive programs and assistance.

This project will be good for all local communities and their families. The contribution from this company is great. Would be great for it to be approved for generations to follow in the footsteps of family.

The project as amended (to 2045) represents an appropriate balance between resource extraction (and the associated economic benefit) and environmental impacts. It is a natural extension of a mine which has been in operation for over 70 years, at the same mining rate and largely within the same footprint, providing employment and prosperity to the LGA and surrounding area.

In addition, the coal to be mined here is some of the best quality coal in the world, with a high calorific value and low ash. If this project were not to proceed, our customers would be forced to buy lower quality coal from other exporters (Indonesia, Russia etc.) with worse environmental outcomes. HVO's first world customers in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and others depend on this asset to meet their energy requirements, and the emissions from the power generation from this coal are appropriately factored into their "Nationally Determined Contributions" in line with their net zero commitments under the Paris Accord, and subsequent climate change summits.

This is a well-considered application with significant economic benefits and its environmental impacts have been comprehensively assessed. I support the approval of this project.

Great for the community.

As someone who is directly employed by HVO, by not approving this extension it will not just be the people like myself that are directly employed by HVO that will lose their jobs and livelihoods it will also affect thousands of other workers that contract or do works for HVO and their families. It’ll affect towns like singleton that rely on mining to survive.

Over the last 2 years I have been employed at HVO. Myself and my family have built our lives around the local community of singleton. My parter is a teacher at singleton high school and we would like to stay within the community and continue contributing to learning children and to the economy.

Without Hunter Valley Operations and its extension, there will be mass job loses not only within the mine but a significant amount of local and Hunter Contractors and businesses will suffer.
