From close of business on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until start of business on Monday 12 January 2026, there will be reduced staffing within the NSW Planning customer support team. Note: Councils, certifiers and other state agencies will also have office closures at this time. As a result, there may be some delays processing your application. The status of your application can be viewed on your NSW Planning Portal dashboard.

You can expand the list by selecting the ‘Show all’ hyperlink under the relevant filter/s. Once filters have been applied, select ‘Apply filters’ to view the refined listing. Select ‘Reset’ if you want to search again.

Can applicants see the changes I make to their application?
Yes. Changes made by council users are visible in the system-generated PDFs. These documents show the previous and updated values, with changes highlighted.
It is best practice to notify applicants of any significant edits, and to ensure that you have their consent prior to amending any application details.

To access the edit development application functionality:
- Log into the NSW Planning Portal using your council profile
- Open the development application you wish to edit
- Select ‘Edit applicant details’ or ‘Edit council entered information’ option from the Actions button in the top right-hand corner
- Edit the incorrect information and complete the process.

No, once a development application has been determined it cannot be edited through the NSW Planning Portal.
If you need to update information after determination, please follow your council’s standard procedures or contact the support team for assistance.

NSW Planning Portal council users can update certain development application details and correct minor errors in the council entered assessment information. Some fields, such as the lodgement date and application type, are restricted to maintain data integrity.
Changes made by council users are visible in system-generated PDFs that show the previous and updated values, with changes highlighted.

Following consultation with council stakeholders, assigned council users will be able to edit additional applicant-provided responses and selected council-entered fields during the assessment process of the Online DA service. These changes will take effect from 26 September 2025.

Following consultation with stakeholders, 6 non-mandatory questions from the development application form (or 39 possible inputs from each of the 3 application types) will be removed on 30 May 2025.

I recently attended a training session on the NSW Planning Portal. Can my attendance be counted toward continuing professional development?
Please discuss this with the relevant industry association. We cannot advise whether the training course can be counted toward continuing professional development programs.
The Department does not provide a Certificate of Attendance to those that attend a NSW Planning Portal training session. However, we can confirm your attendance to support a continuing professional development claim.
To request this, please send an email to [email protected] with the title ‘Request for CPD confirmation’. Please include the name and date of the training you attended, along with your name. Note: This needs to match the name you registered under. We will review the training records, and where relevant confirmation your attendance.

My application has a status of 'Cancelled’. Can I re-open it?
You cannot re-open a cancelled application.
You can copy the information within the cancelled application by:
- Access the relevant ‘Cancelled’ application from the ‘Completed work’ tab on your dashboard.
- Open the application
- Select the ‘Copy to new application’ button at the top of the screen.
This will start a new application. The previously provided information will be pre-populated. You can amend or add to the information as required.

Applications with a status of "In progress" are automatically cancelled after 28 days of inactivity.
Prior to the application being cancelled, you will receive a system-generated notification after 21 days of inactivity.
If you would like to keep the application active, please open the application and either add/edit information or review and submit the application for assessment.
Alternatively, if you no longer require the application, you can allow the application to expire or log into the NSW Planning Portal to cancel the application via the ‘Actions’ button. Please view the How to cancel an ‘In progress’ application step-by-step guide for assistance.
