Dear Major Projects Team,

I am writing on behalf of Mercure Sydney. We are a 517 room hotel with many guests staying for business, leisure and on international holidays. Overall we are supportive of the project with improvements in the local area however we are concerned with the modification to include out of hours work and the increase in hours for hydraulic hammering. We predominantly provide accommodation and we are very sensitive to local area works that include noise which recently has ranged from crane works to footpath repair work.

Out of hours works has a major impact on the hotel with guest sleep disrupted, potentially losing revenue or resulting in compensation due to not being able to provide a comfortable sleep. We request out of hours works to not include any noisy works which could disrupt sleep of hotel guests.

With regards to the increase in hours for hydraulic hammering the hotel peak business is on weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) with majority of guests travelling for leisure. The timing of works for a Saturday will impact a large number of guests and the hotel operation due to noisy works impacting guests stay within the hotel. We request there to be no hydraulic hammering on Saturdays to minimise the impact to the hotel's guests on the busiest day of the week. The noise during the week will have impact on our conferencing guests due to the conference rooms facing the towards the construction site which includes the outdoor terrace. The outdoor terrace will need to be closed during noisy construction on the weekdays due to noise disturbance along with any dust impact.

We request for the extension of hours to not be increased (including out of hours works) to ensure the impact to the hotel guests and the hotel team members who have to face disgruntled guests is kept to a minimum.

Sincerely

Mercure Sydney
