Fire Safety Order issued to 53 Tumbalong Boulevard, Haymarket (SSD 6011) Sydney LGA
On 27 January 2022, the Department issued a Fire Safety Order to the owners of 53 Tumbalong Boulevard, Haymarket, to remove identified external wall panels on the building consisting of Aluminium Composite Panels (ACP). ACP is combustible and poses a fire safety risk. The owners are required to replace the ACP with a non-combustible product and provide an inspection report issued by an accredited certifier, certifying that the replacement panels and method of installation comply with the Building Code of Australia. The owners are required to develop and implement fire safety measures to reduce the fire safety risks associated with the cladding until the rectification work is complete.

My submission (attached) relates chiefly to an initial phase of the government funded PPP Component to which SSD 6011 applies, with important remarks about a dependent successor project SSD 6013 but you may take my objection and criticisms to apply to the whole idea of an unnecessarily costly, major overdevelopment, that will :
1. bring road traffic, even beyond its immediate precinct, to a standstill;
2. threaten the sustainability of existing, thriving businesses in Chinatown;
3. make Sydney's only existing central, large multi purpose public park less accessible and uglier; and
4. because of the fast track procurement process already underway, expose public and representative officials to temptations (and the potential) to act corruptly in the vein coming to light (just as I write) concerning the sensational revelations of the ICAC in the Cherrydale and Mt Penny mine approval cases.
