This horrible EBOR BESS development application repeatedly hides behind compliance with general engineering standards as if it eliminates operational danger, but NSW Fire and Rescue officials have openly noted that design standards are still lagging far behind the unprecedented scale of these deployments.
There is a profound global lack of guidance in building codes regarding the exact probability, mechanisms, and consequences of a massive battery failure.
Given this extreme scientific uncertainty, the Environmental Planning and Assessment framework legally mandates a precautionary approach—this project must be flatly rejected.

The marketing of this grid-scale battery as environmentally friendly is completely false given that recent scientific research reveals lithium-ion batteries are riddled with persistent "forever chemicals" (PFAS).
Furthermore, independent expert analysis of global disasters—like the Moss Landing BESS fire—demonstrates that cathode metal deposition in local ecosystems can be vastly worse than a radioactivity spill because these highly toxic heavy metals cannot be easily tracked or localised with a simple Geiger counter.
Forcing such a severe pollution threat directly onto the scenic Waterfall Way highland environment and nearby agricultural land would be an ecological travesty.

Proponents claim this project benefits consumers, yet the government’s own signature CSIRO GenCost reporting on whole-of-system integration expenses proves that traditional baseload coal remains a far more cost-effective anchor for our grid.
This "renewaBULL" agenda is entirely artificial, surviving solely on market manipulation and ripping off hard-working Australians through hidden taxpayer subsidies.
Rather than wasting billions on short-lived infrastructure that bankrupted operators abroad, we should invest in the multi-generational reliability of baseload coal and high-density nuclear power.

The applicant has failed to provide legally enforceable financial guarantees or definitive resolution paths for protection from lethal hydrogen fluoride gas plumes, long-term hazardous waste management, battery recycling capacity, decommissioning costs and a guarantee.
If the operating entity undergoes future ownership changes or ceases trading, these staggering environmental liabilities will inevitably fall entirely upon local councils and community taxpayers.
Australia must follow the strategic lead of the United States by banning critical infrastructure linked to hostile foreign regimes, focusing instead on permanent, asset-backed base load coal and sovereign nuclear investments.

Ebor BESS introduces an intolerable sovereign risk by embedding critical grid infrastructure heavily reliant on Chinese Communist Party (CCP) state-backed manufacturers.
Placing the utility's control systems in the hands of a hostile foreign adversary creates a prime target for geopolitical coercion, where digital backdoors could be exploited to remotely disable, hack, or intentionally overheat cell blocks.
Rather than installing this insecure, foreign-dependent junk, Australia must mandate true energy independence by building new HELE Coal plants and using our domestic, baseload coal assets as well as establishing a secure, sovereign nuclear power industry.

This entire, fake green, unethical BESS is built upon a foundation of severe human rights abuses, being deeply reliant on imported lithium-ion components that utilise "blood cobalt."
Much of this material is yanked out of toxic, unregulated foreign mines by the bare hands of children as young as six years old working in deadly conditions.
How can shameful Australian Governments support such cruel torture?
Australia must STOP outsourcing its conscience for a virtue-signalling energy experiment.
Instead, we need a new, decent Government who will stick with our ethical, homegrown baseload coal and also adopt well regulated, humane nuclear alternatives - that respect human dignity.

The claims that the project will result in clean, cheaper and reliable energy generation are unsubstantiated and are contrary to the real world facts evidenced by both domestic and overseas experiences. It increases CO2e globally and the cost of NEM electricity. It therefore fails the two fundamental justifications for approval.
This proposed project will do little to address the already compromised energy needs of the NEM grid, let alone, Australia. In fact, it will make it worse as evidenced by overseas experiences in recent years and our own experiences since 2021, with soaring electricity prices, blackouts, energy rationing, record business failures and more business closures predicted for years to come.
The costs in net jobs, environmental damage, destruction of wildlife and habitats, visual pollution of natural landscapes, immediate significant increase in global greenhouse gas emissions, increased cost to electricity consumers and tax payers, cumulative disruption to local communities and others along transport routes, health and fire risks, possible use of slave labour, energy and sovereign security risk, and unfunded end-of-life costs, are just a few more reasons this project should not proceed.
Taking just the foregoing into account the proposed project is "not fit for purpose" and must not be approved. Other countries now recognise these shortcomings and are now turning to better alternatives such as safe, long-life, 24/7 output electricity generation options, such as efficient low CO2 producing HELE plants, CCGT plants , nuclear reactors and in the near future small modular reactors.

I oppose this project because the supply chain involves the use of slave labour. Cobalt and copper artisanal mining relies in slave labour in the DRC and the production of components in China uses slave labour. Stop these degrading projects.
I oppose this project because it is very unlikely that the decommissioning, removal and land rehabilitation will occur due to the exorbitant cost that will be involved. The cost in 20 years or so time will likely exceed today's cost to build the project. Unlike mining companies there is no requirement for this developer to lodge a bond to cover this future cost. Who will ultimately pay? The new owner of the plant, the host landholders, the local ratepayers or the State and/or Federal governments. The project must not be approved unless such a bond is in place.

It appears that the US company Energy Vault is the planned beneficiary of this project. Seems the Australian company Bridge Energy is only around to sign up land owners and get the planning approval. The CEO of Bridge appears to have a background with ARK Energy, AEMC and AEMO. Mmmm
Why bucket taxpayers money out to a foreign company? Why assist Bridge and Energy Vault in gaming the electricity market? Where is the benefit for electricity consumers?
This is a heavily forested area so the bushfire risk here is extreme. The local population is small and the fire service is made up of volunteers. No doubt the asset Protection Zone for this BESS will need to be substantial. Removal of how many trees? What about the fact that Ebor area is a known habitat area for koala. Certainly doesn't sound like this project is good for the environment.
Fire Hazard, risks of thermal runaway, noisy given the fans to cool the millions of batteries, likely the neighbours know little of this project, slave/child labour used in mining to produce the battery components, no decommissioning, risks to the environment of toxicity lasting for decades. Gases that this BESS will give off during a fire will destroy wildlife and the health of the local population. This project is NOT in the public interest.

Likely this BESS will destroy koala habitat and, in the event of a fire, will destroy koalas. This is is a heavily timbered bush fire prone area. Any fire in this BESS will cause toxic gases to plume over the area and likely the fire will have to burn itself out. Devastating for the environment here and this project has also caused devastation in the environment where the raw materials were mined. What guarantees does the NSW Government provide that no slave or child labour has been used in the mining of these raw materials?
We want cheap reliable 24/7 electricity. We don't want to fund this destructive foreign owned toxic junk.
