I think this upgrade for the Kingscliff Public School is great for our community and I back the proposal 100% however I would like to mention the congestion and stress that this will put on Sutherland Street traffic. In particular the foot traffic on the road from Viking street down to Ed Park Rotary Park. Kingscliff is in desperate need of a pathway/boardwalk from Viking street to Ed Park Rotary park. We are fully aware that there is a pathway from Moss Street down to the boardwalk however this is extremely narrow and it is just a matter of time before a pedestrian is hit by a car. The residence on Sutherland street watch children from the school walk and ride their bikes down the hill daily, we are in fear of children being hit before and after school. Please, please put in a pathway for children to walk and ride from the school down to Ed Park Rotary Park. I hope it doesn't take a fatality for the council to act on this. Several residence have asked council for years now to fix this issue and it will only get worst with the increase in population to the school and community . Beside the children being in danger on the road during peak hour for drop off and pick school times we aren't able to get out or our driveways, over the Christmas period alone there were 3 accidents on the corner of Viking street, one being a cyclist. This will not only benefit the safety of the children it will also benefit holiday makers that also risk riding and walking down the hill. There is 20M of flat ground next to 68 Sutherland street that could easily have a pathway and then a ramp built down to the boardwalk at Ed Park Rotary Park. Thanks so much . Regards Sandi McConnell

With regards to proposed footpath/bike paths on both sides Sutherland and Orient streets I have the following comments.
1. I have lived 4 doors from Kingscliff school for past five years and during that time I have seen a maximum of 3 to 4 children cycling to school daily. Has anyone been and checked out how many children ride to school
2. The school is situated on an elevated site/ plateau and from my observations only small number of hildren from the plateau area attend the school with the majority coming from lower surrounds and hence the likelihood of children riding bikes up hilly areas to school is very unlikely and hence no need for extensive bike paths or bike sheds. Although I do applauded the sentiment I children getting to school other than by family transport. But I think more money put into getting children to catch dedicated school bus services would be money better spent.
3. The proposed bike/ skateboard paths on Orient and Sutherland streets goes past a number of properties occupied by elderly and bikes skateboard and elderly disabled people like myself is an accident waiting to happen.
4. I do agree a normal suze footpath not bike path on one side of Sutherland and Orient streets is appropriate but only one side and only a footpath

A large number of residents nearby are elderly, above80, and probably have no computer or limited computer access and/or not computer literate. I think all nearby streets such as Sutherland , Orient, Viking, Omar and Hungerford lane and Orient lane should be doorknocked and provided with information by the department so they can outline any concerns they may have. Failure to do so my breach Humans righrs/disability legislation and going forward could impact on the project.
Also the replacement trees should be of similar height to ficus , although I agree with the change from Ficus species.
One further problem, which I have raised previously is there does not appear any provision for crossings on Orient, Sutherland or Omar streets and as a safety measure it us important these be provided and be manned and consideration be given to lighted crossing on Sutherland Street.
One last issue as a local resident, traffic and parking problems are a Constant problem and raising the current carpark to two story may be of help as would no parking on one side of Sutherland, Oruent and Omar streets during pick up and drop off times.
As a further safety measure I would like the 40km school zone be extended down Viking street between Sutherland and Olga streets and also along Omar street to intersection with Seaview streets. Our young children are our future and need the best protection safety wise as well as the best education facilities for learnjng
