I am writing to express my strong support for the continuation of operations at the Maules Creek coal mine through to 2044.

As an operator at the mine, I’ve experienced firsthand the positive impact this work has had on my life. It provides stable, well-paying employment that allows me to support my growing family, stay rooted in our local community, and build a future in regional New South Wales. This isn’t just a job - it’s a livelihood that gives me purpose and security.

Beyond personal benefits, the mine is a major economic driver for the Gunnedah region. It supports hundreds of local families, contributes to small businesses, funds community projects, and keeps our towns vibrant and resilient. The flow-on effects of continued operation are substantial and essential to the area’s wellbeing.

On a broader scale, Maules Creek plays a role in global energy markets, helping meet international demand for high-quality coal in developing nations where it still forms a crucial part of reliable power generation and industrial development. Until global alternatives are fully viable, our exports help support growth and stability abroad.

I respectfully urge decision-makers to consider the many human, regional, and global benefits this mine provides, and support its continuation through to 2044.

Sincerely,
Luke Scott

The continuation of Maules Creek is not only a benefit for the employees, keeping them in a job, but it will also bring a variety of benefits to the local communities as well over the extension of the life of the mine

By extending the mine life to 2044 allows approx 940 ongoing Jobs to continue , 70% of those are employed locally in rural commmunities, 14% of those employees identify as Aboriginal or Torrest Strait Islander. $160M was paid to Maules Creek workforce employees and in 2024 200m+ was spent with business operating in North West NSW. By extending the mine life would be beneficial to everyone
