Emeco was founded in 1972 and is a publicly owned Mining Services Company, listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX:EHL). We have operations and workshops in all key mining regions of Australia and our customers include mining companies and contractors across coal, gold, copper, bauxite and iron ore. Emeco currently has over 900 employees nationally, with our NSW business that is located in Rutherford employing ~90 staff across the state.

Emeco has been operating in partnership with Whitehaven Coal for over 15 years and currently have over 60 local employees supporting our business in the Gunnedah Basin. Our company also engages the services of over 50 local businesses from Tamworth to Narrabri who help us in providing our services to Whitehaven Coal. The continuation of the WHC Maules Creek Mine will allow Emeco International to continue to support local people and businesses.

Emeco International, in partnership with Whitehaven Coal has a long-term strategic vision for the local Gunnedah area, with a key component of that vision including Maules Creek Mine. This long-term outlook has recently resulted in Emeco establishing both a permanent office and Warehouse

This project will allow operations at Maules Creek to continue until 2044, helping to:
• Secure the jobs of more than 900 local workers
• Provide ongoing economic benefits to businesses, families, and services across North West NSW
• Continue our investment in regional development, training, and community partnerships

I’m submitting in support for the Maules Creek Mine Continuation Project, which is currently under assessment by the NSW Government.
If approved, this project will allow operations at Maules Creek to continue until 2044, helping to:
• Secure the jobs of more than 900 local workers
• Provide ongoing economic benefits to businesses, families, and services across North West NSW
• Continue investment in regional development, training, and community partnerships

We as coal miners wanna keep our jobs and also believe Australia's economy still relies on coal.

I support this project

I wish to object to the granting of an extension to the coal mine at Maules Creek to 2044 on the following grounds:

The mines impact on carbon emissions.
The world is experiencing severe weather events due to rising carbon emissions. Australia has to continue to work towards zero emissions not increase carbon emissions created by mining and exporting a fossil fuel.

Impact on the environment.
The mine would significantly reduce forests( 46% of a state forest )and therefore impact on flora and fauna, in particular the nesting availability of the Swift Parrot. The Swift parrot is becoming enangered, only 500 left in the wild.

Impact on the farming community.
The Narrabri area is a significant farming area, producing food for the Australian population and maintaining a stable rural community.

Water Usage
The mine has unlawfully used local water resources in the past and cannot be trusted to keep to their allocation .Mines use a lot of water and put a lot of strain on the local community and ability to irrigate their crops and provide for town domestic use.

I strongly support the project

I strongly support the continuation of operations at Maules Creek Mine. The mine plays a critical role in supporting local employment, both directly and through associated industries such as transport, maintenance, and services. Its ongoing contribution to the regional economy, particularly in Narrabri and the surrounding communities, cannot be understated.

Whitehaven Coal has shown a commitment to responsible mining practices and community engagement, and with appropriate environmental management, the continuation of Maules Creek can proceed while maintaining a balance between industry, community, and environmental sustainability. The infrastructure, workforce, and supply chains are already in place, and extending the life of the mine ensures economic stability for many local families and businesses.

This continuation is not just about coal—it’s about maintaining livelihoods, supporting regional growth, and providing the certainty that communities like ours need to plan for the future.

This project should proceed as it brings value to local jobs and industry in both the Gunnedah and broader NSW region.

Objection to Maule’s Creek continuation project

I am an individual with mounting concern that the NSW State Government and Australian Federal Government are only giving lip-service to environmental protection and reducing carbon emissions to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Continuing to approve new coal mines and expansions of existing mines, are at odds with the global efforts towards decarbonisation and the Government’s own plan to become a ‘renewable energy superpower”.
Calling Maule’s Creek a ‘continuation’ is deceiving, in reality it is an expansion of mining operations.
This expansion will have disastrous consequences for the ecological communities in the Leard Forest. Box-Gum woodland is extremely rare and essential habitat for many rare and endangered species.
Whitehaven Coal has faced numerous legal actions in relation to environmental breaches at its NSW coal mines. It has demonstrated a pattern of disregard for environmental regulations and a failure to adequately address the impacts of its operations.
Continued destruction and fragmentation of Australia’s unique environment is irresponsible. Governments have a social responsibility to secure biodiversity for future generations.
The Maule’s Creek Coal Mine expansion should be rejected on the grounds of its significant and unnecessary climate change impacts and the threat of ecosystem collapse it imposes on the Leard State Forest.
