I support parklands and the festivals that they hold and I also support them receiving an extension on their trial period, for not having its festivals would feel like a loss to the community and would hurt local business owners who thrive in festival times.

Hi, I am the owner of an independent clothing label that has a stall at the Falls and Splendour Festivals at the Byron Bay Park Lands.
Growing up on the Coffs Coast a few hours south of the Byron Region I have spent a lot of time in the area and it has a strong place in my heart. I am planning on moving to Brunswick Heads later this year to buy a home and start a family.
The current site of the festivals is great for everybody involved, it is a beautiful property out of town but captures the feel of the area
without congesting Byron bay but still adding to the local economy.
I support the application for the extension and it would be a great pity to see the festivals moved from this awesome location.
Thank You,
Alex Alderson-Hicks

We believe the extension should be granted because of the cultural service the events held at the site provide. Twice a year the local community benefits significantly from an influx of festival attendees ; the land has been developed considerably to host large scale events and overall hosting SITG and Falls Festival at the site has had a positive outcome.

To whom it may concern,
I am writing to show my support for the extension of the trial for the Parklands site. My family and I travel to Byron every year just to attend the Splendour festival. Not only do we enjoy the event, we also have an excuse to fly up and see friends particularly during Sydney's cold winters. We contribute to the Byron shire economy by staying in holiday accommodation, hiring babysitters, buying our food locally and eating out at restaurants putting money into the local economy. We have always found the Splendour on the Grass event to run smoothly and efficiently and is the best festival in regards to no environmental impact that I have ever attended and I have been too many music festivals over the years. I cannot understand why anyone would oppose such effective use of otherwise useless land. There are no houses in close proximity and it doesn't cause traffic jams. I have never witnessed any anti-social behaviour and feel safer walking through a crowd of peaceful music goers than a Friday night out in Sydney. If you remove events like Splendour and the Falls Fest, I guarantee this will have a detrimental impact on the Byron Shire economy. Yours sincerely, Helen Hamblion

I 100% support this submission and the festival site, organisers and artists. We need more art and music in our lives, and I believe the stakeholders are responsible custodians of this little piece of paradise. I have seen the renewal and time and dedication that is put into ensuring the environment is cared for, and I want to see future festivals held at this site (and for my kids when they grow up too!).

I support Parklands' request for an extension of the trial period, as they have had no significant adverse, or long lasting impacts on me or my immediate community. I have no problem with these events continuing.

As a local resident I strongly object to any extension of Parklands trial period. I believe that in order for an extension to be granted, the original trial period must have been completed to all parties satisfaction. This is not the case, there are still many months remaining and several of the key requirements have not been met, such as noise limits, public safety at events, stress on the local community and traffic concerns to name but a few.
A recent report from the Police highlighted many issues which endanger not only festival goers but the local community. In my view, these issues must be addressed before any further events can be held on site.
The possibility of increased numbers of festival goers is of great concern to those of us who live in the vicinity of the Parklands site. Many residents have endured unsociable behaviour from festival goers on their own private property. Our beaches and parks have been treated like rubbish dumps. We the residents pay rates and taxes and came here to enjoy the environment not to be subjected to noise and pollution so that Parklands can line their pockets at our expense. There are other sites already being used for similar festivals which do not disturb the public.
More frequent festivals with even more people in attendance not only further disturbs the local human population but also the wildlife resident in the neighbouring nature reserve.
I do not believe that there is significant benefit to local business, nor do the festivals provide enough local employment worth mentioning.
Any extension of the trial period will only exacerbate the above concerns.

I wish to 100% support the continuation of Splendour in the Grass and The Falls festivals to be held at North Byron Parklands. I have participated in these festivals from there beginnings and watched them go from strength to strength in their infrastructure. I feel they are providing an integral part of the needs of the local area, the music lovers and the youth of today. I feel the location is perfect with its close proximity to surrounding facilities and airports. While there may be a short term annoyance to a small amount of people, there will always be opposition of some nature when something is happening out of the ordinary. The Music Art Excitement, Fun and social gathering of a large amount of people is IMPORTANT. The venues for musicians to play and be heard by so many is IMPORTANT. The locals and other businesses and individuals who work at and supply services to these festivals ae IMPORTANT. I personally feel that the continuing of these festivals is a very positive thing for the Byron Shire and surrounding shires. Many hardworking youth of today have been given these festivals to look forward to, enabling them to also support their favourite musicians and discover new ones. They are both wonderful events and I believe we need to say YES.

I support the event, there is a great team hosting the event and plenty of volunteers in place to ensure the grounds a cleaned up during and after the event.
The event brings many people to the grounds from all over Australia and the world, and is a community supported event. This boosts the economy and provides entertainment all in one. As a business owner i see the prosperity of the event.
It would be a great shame to see this event cancelled as it is seen as one of Australias biggest events in the music industry. These events are a perfect platform for patrons to learn about music and culture, for business owners to flourish, for upcoming artists to share there talent, for people to communicate, connect, share, and enjoy what we are all there for...the love of music.

I would like to register my support for events held at North Byron Parklands as a significant cultural events space which also has a positive economical impact on shire. Events held at Parkland's account for about 40% of my yearly income. Many residents of the Byron Shire do not have one full time job, a great many residents have several part time jobs. I am one of those residents and without the employment that comes my way from events held at North Byron Parklands - I would struggle and find it hard to survive in the area.

we have been an active participants to Splendour in the Grass since 2002 and have found that the event has a great importance in the local community, both for traders like us and culturally for the creativity that is involved, for musician, organisers, event planners and for business in the region like accomodation, eateries and resources providers; we believe the events are very important for the region and the promoters should be supported in their efforts to improve the venue and the events.

We live in close proximity of the site and the noise and traffic is very intrusive. On festival nights the noise pollution affects us as a family and some of the attendees are a security risk as the meander down our street during the festival. They have no business being in our street- so why are they there?

This is an important development that provides much needed jobs in the local area. The events have been extremely well managed and organisers have shown a consistent ability to continually improve their performance. I strongly support the extension while the permanent application is being considered.

NSW's planning system is to blame for this mess that Parkland's have had to negotiate. How can you not provide an extension to operate when it is clear to everyone except a few disgruntled NIMBYs that this project has been incredibly well managed. 8 events have all been brilliantly managed. Look around at other events which have largely uncontrolled externalities, even government owned venues such as football stadiums and the like. Large outdoor gatherings are a part of life, part of the fabric of our society. The whinging handful of seniors should either join life or kindly do us all a favour and depart the planet. Just for the record I am 76 and I wholeheartedly support this project. Approve the project for goodness sake.

I support the proposed extension to the trial.
Parklands and its events bring a range of cultural, economic and social benefits to the NSW far north coast and its important that they continue.
With particular regard to this modification, an extension to the trial will enable Parklands to continue to collect data on noise, traffic, environmental and social impacts while its application for permanent approval is prepared and assessed.

I believe that the extension of the trial period for the Byron Parklands will have great benefit to the local area. I have extensive contacts within the local business community and have heard repeatedly how these events bring revenue to them whilst the events are on and "on flow" once they are finished. It'll be great f we can keep these events in out local area

The Byron Parklands site, and the Splendour in the Grass and Falls festivals it hosts, are of huge benefit to our shire and its community. The management of the site and its events have proven themselves adept at maintaining extremely high standards in safety and environmental management, actively developing our community's' cultural and social life, and building on the iconic brand of our region. To this end, I am highly supportive of an extension of the site's trial period while its permanent approval is under assessment.
