the expansion of any coal mining must be rejected. the burning of coal is a dangerous and toxic process. it causes serious health problems and alters our climate and destroys our environment. there is absolutely no reason for permitting this coal mine expansion as there are so many alternatives to the burning of coal.

* Approval of this project will likely incur an extra movement of 300,000 tonnes of coal by road truck. These trucks will probably transit via the Blue Mtns. An estimated 7,000 truck movements outwards per annum. The highway(s) are already showing severe signs of degradation (local community experiences) likely due to frequent 40 tonne trucks hammering the road surface.
* Rail is available and should be mandatory for this project.
*If extraction continues then prioritise usage of the extracted coal to Mt. Piper rather than exported
* Site rehabilitation methods should be strengthened to ensure they are effective & enforceable.
* this proposed change is quite significant not minor administrative alteration, that will adversely impact the nearby Gardens of Stone
* Link approval to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader. Such an upgrade would reduce reliance on the polluting Springvale wet facility.

Being a long term resident of the Lithgow area I support the Clarence Colliery mod 11 project. Clarence Colliery is a major employer in a community that lacks employment opportunities, the Centennial Company takes on apprentices from the town providing employment for students from the local schools also it provides external jobs outside of the mine site for the greater community. Clarence Colliery also works within the boundaries of the environmental agencies and provides Lithgow with water when required. This mine and the Centennial Company support local Schools, events, sporting groups, charity groups and other organisations throughout the Lithgow area. As a father and grandfather I see this project as a good advancement for our local area and the people within it.

I am writing to support the proposed mine extension. This mine provides steady work for more than three hundred people, many of whom live locally, including myself and people I know. These jobs help families stay in the area and give our community security and stability. The mine also supports many other local businesses, contractors, shops, and services that rely on it.
Mining has always been a big part of our community. It’s part of who we are and has supported generations of local families. Keeping the mine going helps protect that history and ensures our town continues to grow and stay strong.
The mining methods used here are carefully managed and designed to have very little impact on the environment and the land on the surface. The company monitors this closely, and the community sees the benefits of mining done responsibly.
Most importantly, this is a local mine that employs local people. The extension means ongoing work, ongoing support for local families, and ongoing benefits for the whole region. Losing these jobs would hurt our community, but continuing the mine will help keep it thriving.

This proposal seeks to extend coal mining operations for another five years when Australia and NSW urgently need to reduce reliance on coal, not approving extended coal extraction. To avoid dangerous climate change this proposal needs to be rejected by all levels of government.
Mining and burning coal prolongs the environmental damage already affecting our waterways. landforms and climate.
This proposal is not appropriate for the Gardens of Stone region and for NSW.
If the extension is approved despite community opposition, it must come with these five strict conditions:
Link approval to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader. This critical infrastructure would reduce reliance on the polluting, wet Springvale mine.
Reject the continued approval of 300,000 tonnes of coal by truck. There is no justification for extending years of heavy truck movements through the Blue Mountains and Sydney. Rail is available and should be mandatory.
Acknowledge the real impacts of truck transport. The claim of “no or negligible” impacts does not reflect the experience of communities dealing with noise, traffic, diesel pollution and road safety risks from over 7000 truck trips every year.
Prioritise local use over export. Most Clarence coal is exported. If extraction continues, it should supply Mount Piper Power Station to avoid pressure for new coal from more damaging mines in the region.
Strengthen rehabilitation requirements. Existing rehabilitation commitments are outdated and inadequate. Any extension must impose modern, enforceable rehabilitation standards.

It's important we keep Clarence Colliery open, Lithgow is not ready for 200 + jobs to be removed from the workforce and will force unnecessary relocations, family separations and mental health issues. Lithgow cannot sustain that amount of unemployment.
