Modification 11 - Time Extension

This is a critical extension request. Mining and burning coal prolongs the environmental damage which already affects our waterways, landforms and climate. Five more years of coal extraction is a significant decision for our environment, our communities and the Gardens of Stone.
If community opposition and tabled environmental impacts are ignored, and this extension is approved, it must be come with these five strict conditions, in any priority:
1. Link approval to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader to reduce reliance on the polluting, wet Springvale mine.
2. Reject the continued approval of 300,000 tonnes of coal by truck. Rail is available and should be mandatory.
3. As above, review and acknowledge the real impacts of truck transport. The claim of “no or negligible” impacts does not reflect the experience of communities dealing with noise, traffic, diesel pollution and road safety risks from over 7000 truck trips every year.
4. Prioritise local use over export. If extraction continues, it can supply Mount Piper Power Station and avoid pressure for new coal from more damaging mines in the region.
5. Strengthen rehabilitation requirements. Existing rehab commitments are outdated and inadequate. Any extension must impose modern, relevant and enforceable rehabilitation standards.

I’ve lived in Lithgow all of my life which is 62 years
We need the life of Clarence Collery extended. We need the employment for the younger generation coming through. Clarence colliery and Centennial are a great supporter of Lithgow, whether it be sporting, local Events or charities.
Our town has lost a lot of employment over the last 10 years with coal mines closing, Wallerawang power station closed and being demolished, not having the Railway workshop come to Lithgow. It will be devastating to our town if Clarence colllery doesn’t get an extension. The Colbein industry has been the backbone of our community For decades. It has generations Of families working in the industry.
I believe that, even in the current economical and political times, Coal still plays a big role And it will take a lot of resources to replace the coal industry

The colliery plays a huge role in our community through sponsorships, donations and support of various local community groups .
It also has the obvious impact of supporting the local community through the wages of its employees. I believe if coal mining left the community it would die because it is not ready to transition away from the it’s reliance on the industry.
