I’ve have only been working at Clarence colliery for 1 full year now and it has helped my family life more than I could’ve imagined. I support the extension of Clarence colliery. It would benefit not only me but the other workers and the community.

To whom it may concern,
I support Modification 11 for Clarence. This change does not increase the size of the mine or introduce new impacts. It simply allows the operation to continue.
As the owner of a local HR business, I work with a range of small and medium businesses that depend on steady employment and long-term planning. When major projects end suddenly, it affects not just the workforce but also local service providers, contractors, and families who rely on that work.
Providing an extension allows businesses time to plan, adjust, and support workers in a more orderly way. It also avoids rushed decisions that can create unnecessary disruption in the local economy. On balance, Modification 11 is a practical request that helps maintain stability for local businesses and the wider community while keeping existing environmental and operational conditions in place.

I would like to submit my support for the proposed mine extension. As a local I am acutely aware of the communities reliance on this industry to provide its financial lifeline. So many people would be devastated by its closure. From council rates to community grants, to all the businesses that support the mine, to the workforce that lives and invests in the local communities. Lithgow has no new significant industries that could boost its community anywhere near the scale of this mine.
This mine has been an established industry since the 80’s boasting an impressive productivity, safety and environmental caretaking approach.
Whilst the leftwing environmental activists paint the company as anything but, the proof of the pits ability to safely operate is evident to anyone fortunate enough to visit the surrounding conservation areas.
As a keen nature enthusiast who enjoys the waterways and canyons around the mine it is remarkable how pristine the region is. I would like think those who decide the outcome of these submissions put a greater weight on the opinions of those that live in the local
community rather than those from outside the region who are merely acting on their political/environmental obsessions.
Thank you.

I am writing to support the proposed mine extension. This mine provides steady work for more than three hundred people, many of whom live locally, including myself and people I know. These jobs help families stay in the area and give our community security and stability. The mine also supports many other local businesses, contractors, shops, and services that rely on it.
Mining has always been a big part of our community. It’s part of who we are and has supported generations of local families. Keeping the mine going helps protect that history and ensures our town continues to grow and stay strong.
The mining methods used here are carefully managed and designed to have very little impact on the environment and the land on the surface. The company monitors this closely, and the community sees the benefits of mining done responsibly.
Most importantly, this is a local mine that employs local people. The extension means ongoing work, ongoing support for local families, and ongoing benefits for the whole region. Losing these jobs would hurt our community, but continuing the mine will help keep it thriving.

I strongly oppose Clarence Colliery’s proposed Modification 11.
This proposal seeks to extend operations for another five years. At a time when we urgently need to reduce reliance on coal, approving extended coal extraction is the wrong direction for the Gardens of Stone region and for NSW. Mining and burning coal prolongs the environmental damage already affecting our waterways, landscape and climate.
If the extension is approved, despite community opposition, it must come with strict conditions:
– The approval must be linked to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader. This critical infrastructure would reduce reliance on the polluting Springvale mine.
– The continued approval of removal of 300,000 tonnes of coal by truck must be stopped. There is no justification for extending years of heavy truck movements through the Blue Mountains and Sydney. Rail is available and its use should be mandatory. The real impacts of truck transport must be acknowledged. The claim of “no or negligible” impacts does not reflect the experience of communities dealing with noise, extra traffic, diesel pollution and road safety risks from the over 7000 truck trips every year from this mine.
– Local use must be prioritised over export. Most Clarence coal is exported. If extraction continues, it should supply Mount Piper Power Station to avoid pressure for new coal from more damaging mines in the region.
– Rehabilitation requirements must be strengthened. Existing rehabilitation commitments are outdated and inadequate. Any extension must impose modern, enforceable rehabilitation standards.
– Approval must be linked to rehabilitation of old waste dumps. The disused coal waste heaps of this mine must be rehabilitated immediately to prevent fine sediments washing into the Wollangambe River, a listed wild river.
This is a critical moment. Five more years of coal extraction is not a minor administrative change — it is a significant decision for our environment, our communities and the Gardens of Stone.

Clarence Colliery Modification 11 should be approved because it represents a low risk high value continuation of an already well regulated operation with a proven environmental and compliance record. The modification does not introduce new disturbance, alter mining methods, increase production, or change the mines existing footprint.

I am an employee at Clarence Colliery. Which has provided an income and lifestyle for my family and myself. Lithgow is a mining town full of families with the same values and sense of pride to be involved in mining. Clarence Colliery employs hundreds of people directly and many more indirectly through contractors, suppliers of goods and services etc. If the mine
should not be granted an extension it would affect the many people and families that rely on the colliery for an income. A lot more at stake than jobs. Community .
