I support the continued operation of Clarence Colliery, this is a significant employer in the district and a significant contributor toward the NSW and Australian economy. We should take every opportunity to support and maintain operations at Clarence Colliery.

Clarence mine is a long term employer in the Lithgow region. This extension secures the employment for the mine workers.

I would like to submit my support for this modification at Clarence Colliery for the continued employment for approximately 300 full‑time equivalent workers, with approval for up to 400, sustaining jobs that anchor the local economy and support families across the Lithgow region.

I object to the proposal on the grounds that it makes it impossible to meet zero emissions targets but if the extension is approved despite community opposition, it must come with these five strict conditions:

Link approval to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader. This critical infrastructure would reduce reliance on the polluting, wet Springvale mine.
Reject the continued approval of 300,000 tonnes of coal by truck. There is no justification for extending years of heavy truck movements through the Blue Mountains and Sydney. Rail is available and should be mandatory.
Acknowledge the real impacts of truck transport. The claim of “no or negligible” impacts does not reflect the experience of communities dealing with noise, traffic, diesel pollution and road safety risks from over 7000 truck trips every year.
Prioritise local use over export. Most Clarence coal is exported. If extraction continues, it should supply Mount Piper Power Station to avoid pressure for new coal from more damaging mines in the region.
Strengthen rehabilitation requirements. Existing rehab commitments are outdated and inadequate. Any extension must impose modern, enforceable rehabilitation standards.

I do not support the continuation of coal mining give the need to move to alternative technologies which reduce carbon in the atmosphere. This project goes against a plethora of NSW Government policies and strategies which seek to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. By continuing this and other coal mines, this goal which is strongly supported by the NSW community will be jeopardy.

Extending mining operations in both size and length of time in operation is against the plan of going to zero emissions. Most of their product is going overseas so the earth still suffers. Stop mining fossil fuels now

I object to the extension.

If the extension proceeds despite strong community opposition, it must include these five non-negotiable conditions:
1. Require the Lidsdale coal unloader upgrade as a condition of approval. Upgrading this critical infrastructure would reduce dependence on the highly polluting Springvale wet coal mine.
2. End the approval for 300,000 tonnes of coal transport by truck. There is no justification for continuing years of heavy truck movements through the Blue Mountains and Sydney when rail transport is available and should be mandatory.
3. Recognise the true impact of truck transport on communities. Claims of "no or negligible" impact ignore the reality faced by residents: persistent noise, congestion, diesel pollution, and road safety hazards from more than 7,000 truck trips annually.
4. Prioritise local supply over export. The majority of Clarence coal is exported. If extraction continues, it should be directed to Mount Piper Power Station, reducing pressure to open more damaging mines in the region.
5. Impose modern, enforceable rehabilitation standards. Current rehabilitation commitments are outdated and insufficient. Any extension must mandate up-to-date, binding rehabilitation requirements.

Clarence Colliery’s proposed Modification 11.

This proposal seeks to extend operations for another five years. At a time when we urgently need to reduce reliance on coal, approving extended coal extraction is the wrong direction for the Gardens of Stone region and for NSW.
I oppose the extension in its current form. Mining and burning coal prolongs the environmental damage already affecting our waterways, landforms and climate.

This is a critical moment. Five more years of coal extraction is not a minor administrative change — it is a significant decision for our environment, our communities and the Gardens of Stone.

I oppose Clarence Colliery’s proposed Modification 11.

I am a biologist who has studied rivers in the Gardens of Stone. I am appalled by this proposal. I follow the Gardens of Stone Alliance in opposing the extension in its current form. Mining and burning coal prolongs the environmental damage already affecting our waterways. landforms and climate.

Link approval to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader. This critical infrastructure would reduce reliance on the polluting, wet Springvale mine.

At a time when catastrophic weather events are an almost daily occurrence somewhere in the world, and climate science lays the cause of these events to be clearly the continued, and increasing , burning of fossil fuels such as coal, it is absurd to prpposa any extensions to the operations of existing coal mines. This proposal must not be allowed to proceed.

Mining and burning coal prolongs the environmental damage already affecting our waterways. landforms and climate. Air and sea temperatures are steadily rising causing more extreme weather, more insurance claims and government payments. With the cause, the approved mining company contributing very little.

Please reject this proposal to extend operations at Clarence Colliery.
I live in Sydney, but the Garden of Stones, the Wolgan Valley and the surrounding areas are my go-to areas for time of peace, rest and recreation in the bush. I love this areas and the natural flora and fauna. Even the zig-zag railway!
The world cannot afford more or extended coal mines. We urgently need to reduce our reliance on coal and be developing renewable energy projects. there are so many job opportunities there! Please, for our planet, for our children, for our grandchildren, no extension to this coal mine. The mines already are destroying the environment and - terrifyingly threatening our waterways. The trucks that transport the current coal have huge impact on the communities already - noise and diesel pollution. We need to start recovering from this now!
Thank you for reading my comments and my plea to not approve the proposed extension to Clarence Colliery.

This proposal seeks to extend operations for another five years, which is by no means trivial. At a time when we urgently need to reduce reliance on coal, approving extended coal extraction is the wrong direction for the Gardens of Stone region and for NSW. If, despite this, a decision is made to approve the extension, some significant conditions should be strictly met. It is claimed that transport by truck has 'no or negligible' impact. This is patently false and does not reflect the impact on local communities of over 7,00 truck trips every year, not does it reflect the impact of avoidable heavy truck movements through the Blue Mountains. It should be required that ongoing coal; transport be by rail, which has suitable facilities available locally. Any approval should be linked to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader so as to reduce reliance on the polluting Springvale mine. Currently most of the Clarence coal is exported. It should be mandated that domestic coal use be given overriding priority to minimise avoidable development of more coal mines. Finally, the current rehabilitation requirements are not fit for purpose, being outdated and inadequate. Any approval should impose modern and enforceable rehabilitation standards.
