Mining and burning coal prolongs the environmental damage already affecting our waterways, landforms and climate.

1. Link approval to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader. This critical infrastructure would reduce reliance on the polluting, wet Springvale mine.
2. Reject the continued approval of 300,000 tonnes of coal by truck. There is no justification for extending years of heavy truck movements through the Blue Mountains and Sydney. Rail is available and its use should be mandatory.
3. Acknowledge the real impacts of truck transport. The claim of “no or negligible” impacts does not reflect the experience of communities dealing with noise, traffic, diesel pollution and road safety risks from over 7000 truck trips every year.
4. Prioritise local use over export. Most Clarence coal is exported. If extraction continues, it should supply Mount Piper Power Station to avoid pressure for new coal from more damaging mines in the region.
5. Strengthen rehabilitation requirements.Existing rehab commitments are outdated and inadequate. Any extension must impose modern, enforceable rehabilitation standards.
6. Link approval to rehabilitation of old waste dumps. The disused coal waste heaps of this mine must be rehabilitated immediately to prevent fine sediments washing into the Wollangambe River, a listed wild river.

I support this project. The proposed extension of the Clarence Colliery should go ahead because it offers significant economic, social, and strategic benefits for the region and New South Wales as a whole. Located near Lithgow, the mine is a major local employer, supporting hundreds of direct jobs and many more indirect roles in transport, maintenance, and local services. Extending its life would provide ongoing job security for workers and stability for families and small businesses that rely on mining activity.

The extension would also sustain valuable export revenue. High-quality coal from Clarence Colliery contributes to steel production and energy markets, supporting both domestic industry and international trade. Continued operations would generate royalties and taxes that help fund public infrastructure, healthcare, and education across New South Wales.

Importantly, the extension can proceed under strict environmental regulations. Modern mining practices, rehabilitation commitments, and monitoring systems help minimise environmental impacts and ensure land is restored responsibly over time. By allowing the project to go ahead with clear conditions, the government can balance economic development with environmental protection.

In a regional community where alternative large-scale industries are limited, extending Clarence Colliery represents a practical, managed pathway to sustained employment, economic resilience, and responsible resource development.

I am writing to support the proposed mine extension. This mine provides steady work for more than three hundred people, many of whom live locally, including myself and people I know. These jobs help families stay in the area and give our community security and stability. The mine also supports many other local businesses, contractors, shops, and services that rely on it.
Mining has always been a big part of our community. It’s part of who we are and has supported generations of local families. Keeping the mine going helps protect that history and ensures our town continues to grow and stay strong.
The mining methods used here are carefully managed and designed to have very little impact on the environment and the land on the surface. The company monitors this closely, and the community sees the benefits of mining done responsibly.
Most importantly, this is a local mine that employs local people. The extension means ongoing work, ongoing support for local families, and ongoing benefits for the whole region. Losing these jobs would hurt our community, but continuing the mine will help keep it thriving.

I am writing to support the proposed mine extension.
I live in Portland, NSW, which is a part of the Greater Lithgow region that Clarence Colliery operates in.
The Colliery employs a multitude of workers from within the region and surrounds.
Lithgow has a strong mining background that is able to support local businesses, contract workers and many other services in the region.
Without the Colliery, the loss of revenue and the impact on the local community would be devastating. Hundreds of local families will be greatly impacted without the Colliery and all it does for the community.
Clarence Colliery, mines in an environmentally conscious manner so as not to affect the land on the surface that is enjoyed by so many.
Losing this mine, in this region would be a major loss to a community that is built on coal mining.
It is in the very fabric and DNA of the Lithgow community, many of whom rely on business provided by the mines, mine workers and their families living in the area.
Please consider the impact it would have on the tens of thousands of people living in and around Lithgow when you seek to make a decision on the extension of mine.

I support the continuation of Clarence Colliery operation as outlined in the Mod 11 application..
Clarence Colliery provides a significant economic benefit to the local Lithgow community via employment of employee's and staff, contractors and small business's who deal with the mine. Clarence has been operating in the area and manages due safety and environmental constraints with due diligence to comply with the legislative requirements set out on the business.
Clarence Colliery provide's ongoing support to the local community with sponsorship and donations to many organisations in sport, cancer support, local events and Clarence Dargan Bushfire Brigade (NSWRFS).
Coal produced supplies into international markets and local power station which helps ensure energy security in the period of global transition to renewable energy markets which is extremely important to the future and the product is a high quality coal which is in demand on the world coal market.

This Mine supports many Residents of Lithgow and the neighboring towns. Many Businesses rely on this mine and their livelihood depends substantially on the survival of the mines in the area. It is therefore of great importance that the extension be granted.

As someone who has grown up with a close personal connection to the local natural environment, I strongly oppose the time extension of the Clarence Colliery. As the real impacts of climate change loom more threatening than ever before, approving extended coal extraction is the wrong direction for the Gardens of Stone region and for NSW. We must reduce our reliance on coal and transition quickly to renewables. The mining operation should not be continued under any circumstances.

In case that this crucial direction is not taken by the NSW government and extraction continues despite the existential risk it poses, I urge the following considerations:
1. The Lidsdale coal unloader must be upgraded. This is critical infrastructure which would reduce reliance on the polluting, wet Springvale mine.
2. Extracted coal must be transported by rail, not truck, reducing the significant impact on the local community and environment.
3. Local use (such as at Mount Piper) should be prioritised, rather than exporting the coal internationally.
4. Rehabilitation requirements but be significantly strengthened and enforced.
5. Old waste dumps must be rehabilitated immediately to stop fine sediments running off into the Wollangambe River.
