I would like to voice my opposition to the proposed Clarence Colliery's extension in its current form due to the environmental damage caused by mining and burning coal.
If the extension is approved it must come with these five strict conditions:
Link approval to the upgrade of the Lidsdale coal unloader. This critical infrastructure would reduce reliance on the polluting, wet Springvale mine.
Reject the continued approval of 300,000 tonnes of coal by truck. There is no justification for extending years of heavy truck movements through the Blue Mountains and Sydney. Rail is available and should be mandatory.
Acknowledge the real impacts of truck transport. The claim of “no or negligible” impacts does not reflect the experience of communities dealing with noise, traffic, diesel pollution and road safety risks from over 7000 truck trips every year.
Prioritise local use over export. Most Clarence coal is exported. If extraction continues, it should supply Mount Piper Power Station to avoid pressure for new coal from more damaging mines in the region.
Strengthen rehabilitation requirements. Existing rehab commitments are outdated and inadequate. Any extension must impose modern, enforceable rehabilitation standards.
Unless the above conditions are strictly followed, I am opposed to the extension of coal mining and extraction at Clarence Colliery.

I am supportive of the project and agree with the outlined positive benefits it will bring to the local area. Not only is it my employment, but it also creates employment opportunities for many others in the area, not only directly but indirectly as well.

I oppose the Clarence Colliery’s proposed Modification 11.
At a time when we urgently need to reduce reliance on coal, this proposal seeks to extend operations for another five years. This directly contradicts the need to control CO₂ emissions and the international agreements Australia has signed. Mining and burning coal only prolongs the environmental damage already impacting our waterways, landforms, and climate.
Additionally, the mining relies on road transport of the coal, estimated at 7,000 truck trips a year through the Blue Mountains and Sydney. This is not a negligible impact on the communities affected, who must contend with increased noise, heavier traffic, diesel pollution, and heightened road safety risks.
If the coal is mined — and I strongly oppose that as a starting position — why are we exporting that coal when it could be used in Australia and potentially mitigate the opening of other mines to supply the dirty coal-fired power stations we unfortunately still rely on?
Finally, if the coal is mined — and I strongly oppose that as a starting position — we must massively strengthen environmental monitoring and rehabilitation requirements. We need robust safeguards, significant penalties, and enforceable rehabilitation standards.
Five more years of coal extraction is not acceptable.
Do not approve this extension.

"I am writing to support the proposed mine extension. This mine provides steady work for more than three hundred people, many of whom live locally, including myself and people I know. These jobs help families stay in the area and give our community security and stability. The mine also supports many other local businesses, contractors, shops, and services that rely on it.
Mining has always been a big part of our community. It’s part of who we are and has supported generations of local families. Keeping the mine going helps protect that history and ensures our town continues to grow and stay strong.
The mining methods used here are carefully managed and designed to have very little impact on the environment and the land on the surface. The company monitors this closely, and the community sees the benefits of mining done responsibly.
Most importantly, this is a local mine that employs local people. The extension means ongoing work, ongoing support for local families, and ongoing benefits for the whole region. Losing these jobs would hurt our community, but continuing the mine will help keep it thriving.

At a time when we urgently need to reduce reliance on coal, approving extended coal extraction is the wrong direction for the Gardens of Stone region and for NSW.
Mining and burning coal prolongs the environmental damage already affecting our waterways. landforms and climate.

I strongly support approval of Clarence Colliery Modification 11 because it allows our operation to continue safely and responsibly while protecting the livelihoods of the people who work here and the broader Lithgow community that depends on the mine.
Clarence Colliery plays a critical role in supporting local jobs and businesses. Hundreds of workers, including myself, rely on the mine for stable employment, and many local contractors, suppliers and service providers also depend on its continued operation. Without this extension, there would be significant impacts on workers, families and the local economy. The additional five years would provide important stability and allow time for workers and the region to prepare for the future in a planned and responsible way.
Approving Modification 11 would allow Clarence Colliery to continue operating responsibly, maintain local employment, and support the community during a period of transition. For workers like myself, this extension represents job security, stability for our families, and the ability to continue contributing to our local community.

Coal mining in the Lithgow region is the largest economic driver contributing to $241 million annually, It would also be guaranteeing 400 local jobs to support their families and the local economy, the project provides essential coal to Mt piper power station supporting NSW’s power supply, I support this project.

Nsw will not meet its stated climate goals, so why more coal when there are cheaper alternatives.
The amount of truck movements over 5 years is not good for environment or residents road users.
Why not rail ?
Thankyou.
