Greater transparency for Major Projects

Planning documents will be easier to access and assessment timeframes will be more transparent thanks to significant upgrades to the State's Major Projects website.

Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said the upgrades will provide community and industry with a one-stop shop for information on planning matters.

“For the first time, the public will be able to view all post-approval documents in one place,” Mr Stokes said.

“Feedback from industry and members of the community has been that accessing information is too difficult and the process too complex – so we’ve acted.

“We have gotten rid of outdated IT, and created a single source of truth that allows everyone to access documents and reports on developments across the State.

“More than 130,000 people have visited the Major Projects website, since it was released in February this year, so we want to ensure those people have direct access to accurate and timely information.”

The upgrades are part of the reforms announced by Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Mr Stokes last week to bring greater certainty, transparency and timeliness to the NSW planning system.

Previously, proponents had to manually lodge post approval documents via the Department and did not have visibility of who was managing the project or the timeframe it had to be actioned within.

Now, proponents will be able to lodge all post approval documents online, track progress against timeframes, monitor compliance and consult with the Department and more than 100 government offices across NSW more efficiently.

The greater transparency will also allow people to see if development in their community is consistent with what was approved, and ensure people can keep up-to-date on major projects in their local area.
