NSW Planning Portal’s two-year feature and technology roadmap released
07 October 2025
The NSW Planning Portal (the Portal) is a critical component of the state’s digital infrastructure, supporting faster, more transparent, and user-centric planning and housing delivery across New South Wales.
This work is guided by a clear vision: to treat digital as core infrastructure—enabling faster housing delivery through integrated platforms that connect policy, process and people. It’s about putting more keys in more doors, faster.
Over the past 12 months, we have focused on stabilising the Portal, enhancing user experience, and laying the foundations for long-term digital transformation. We are keen to make further improvements to enable faster housing delivery through integrated platforms that connect policy, process and people. The two-year feature and technology roadmap will help us do so.
Our objectives
The roadmap aims to position the Portal as a critical digital enabler of the state’s planning and housing goals. Its key objectives are to:
- Accelerate approvals and housing delivery by streamlining planning pathways and reducing assessment times
- Facilitate collaboration between different levels of government, industry professionals (e.g. certifiers, builders, developers, etc.) and the community
- Provide a seamless customer experience through modern, intuitive design
- Utilise modern and scalable, technology systems to meet growing demand
- Improve integration with council systems and spatial data platforms
- Strengthen data and analytics to support decision-making and transparency
- Ensure adaptability to ongoing policy and regulatory changes.
Roadmap overview
The roadmap outlines 5 prerequisites and 15 strategic initiatives focused on modernising technology, streamlining processes, enhancing data and analytics, and strengthening collaboration with councils, industry, and government. These initiatives have been informed by feedback from users and stakeholders, ensuring the roadmap is responsive to community and industry needs.
