This is an extremely disruptive proposal for a vast majority of residents of Newington. There are alternate ways that must be considered before uprooting the lives of many residents including those who are elderly/disabled and would not be able to be fit to travel around their own community because of the lack of parking, noise 24/7 and other such implications

I object to the Greater Parramatta and Olympic Peninsula (GPOP) Water Cycle Project, specifically the planned works and discharge at Meadowbank.

My concerns are primarily environmental and relate to the long-term impact on the Parramatta River foreshore and Memorial Park.

Environmental damage
- Removal of established trees and vegetation
- Loss of bush regeneration areas
- Destruction of habitat for native wildlife
- Long-term reduction in local biodiversity

Impact on the Parramatta River
- Introduction of treated wastewater/brine into the river system
- Potential impacts on water quality and aquatic life
- Risk to ongoing river rehabilitation efforts

Loss of green space
- Reduction of already limited urban green areas
- Loss of a natural buffer between development and the river
- Permanent change to the character of the foreshore

Displacement of impact
- Wastewater originating from Olympic Park and Wentworth Point
- Environmental impact being transferred across the river
- Unfairly shifts environmental impact from high-density development areas onto a smaller residential community
- Places the environmental burden on Meadowbank rather than addressing it at its source
- Transfers the negative impacts of development onto a community that did not generate them
- Disproportionately impacts Meadowbank while benefiting larger developments elsewhere
- Effectively offloads environmental consequences from developers onto an established local community

This proposal results in:
- Environmental harm to an established green space & destruction of a bush regeneration area
- Increased pressure on a recovering river system
- Loss of valuable natural areas for both wildlife and the community

The environmental cost to Meadowbank is significant and not justified.
I strongly object to the proposal and request that an alternative site should be sourced. It should not be Meadowbank.

Please move works to Holker st as the park is a valuable space used within the community eg mothers groups and children playgroups. We currently have over 20 families meet here regularly to maintain local community connections.

I am opposed to the project in its current form, the lack of information and transparency is very concerning. I actually work for an lga and alongside traffic in my position. Contraflows will not work effectively in this instance not just for the streets involved with construction but also to the greater community of Newington Suburb. The traffic along Newington boulevard is an ever increasing flow. We have a large public school which seems to have been left out of any comment in this proposal. This school creates an immense amount of traffic at start and end of school days. We have bus routes that are used constantly during the day with many buses needed to transport commuters and families. Parking in our suburb has been cut and is continuing to be cut by council in the small back streets shown as alternative routes for the project at the north end I can not see how this will be effective. Then there are the events at SOP Sydney Olympic Park that create more traffic through the suburb on a regular basis. I am a long term resident of Newington and hope this project does not hurt the community and our way of life as we know it.

I am writing to formally object to the Greater Parramatta and Olympic Peninsula Water Cycle Management project as a resident of Meadowbank, living just a few hundred metres from Memorial Park.

Memorial Park and the surrounding green spaces represent a vital backyard for local residents, particularly for those of us living in units. These parks provide a safe haven, a sense of peace, and an essential connection to nature. I regularly observe the local community enjoying these spaces - the water, the trees, and the quiet, which foster social cohesion and a strong sense of community.

I strongly believe this project will have significant negative impacts, including:
1. Undue stress from construction noise and disruption, affecting the wellbeing of residents.
2. Potential damage to the parks and local environment, which may be irreversible.
3. Unfair and disproportionate impact on nearby residents, without sufficient consideration of alternatives.

I urge Sydney Water and the relevant authorities to reconsider this proposal and identify solutions that do not compromise these valued public spaces or the wellbeing of the local community.

Please reconsider the placement of these works. The park and foreshore along Meadowbank are home to a wide range of wildlife, all of which will be significantly affected if their habitat is removed. Meadowbank is already a high‑density suburb with many apartment buildings, and it is essential that we preserve as much green space as possible. These areas are vital for exercise, recreation, and mental wellbeing, especially for residents who do not have access to private outdoor space.

In addition, the impacts on residents living directly adjacent to the proposed works will be severe throughout the construction phase. It is unreasonable and unfair for these community members to bear the brunt of the disruption, noise, and loss of amenity that will result.

I urge you to explore alternative locations or approaches that protect both the natural environment and the wellbeing of local residents.

I object to this project travelling through Newington and the wetlands.
A pipe into the floor of Parramatta River directly from the pump station would carry the water to the targeted location with no disruption to communities and sensitive environmental concerns.
The scoping report, July 2024, states that sensitive bird and frog areas will be disrupted as written below:
6.1.2 Potential impacts Construction. Construction may impact high values of biodiversity in SOPA land. Direct impacts will be avoided where possible. However, unavoidable impacts may include: • removal or disturbance of threatened ecological communities, mangroves and threatened flora species • removal or disturbance of known habitat of threatened fauna species, including Green and Golden Bell Frog • removal of potential or known marginal foraging habitat for migratory species. Potential indirect impacts include sedimentation and erosion impacts, introduction or spread of weeds and noise and vibration disturbance on sensitive fauna. (page 37)
6.2.2 Potential impacts Construction Potential impacts to aquatic flora and fauna include: • suspension of sediments which may impact estuarine ecology during dredging required for construction of a river release structure • potential for frac-outs, which is the temporary loss of drilling fluids into the nearby waterways during trenchless construction. Inappropriately managed, this may harm aquatic ecology in the coastal wetlands as well as MNES. • sedimentation and erosion impacts on downstream aquatic environments • pollution of aquatic habitats resulting in reduced habitat conditions for vegetation and downstream aquatic habitats. (page 38)

Considering the enormous impact on Newington, including taking over the outdoor recreation area and obstruction of traffic and possible release of toxins with the soil, the report almost bypasses the Newington impact. A disgrace

The 1.5 of project will cause environmental destruction, especially drilling risks PFAS and heavy metals used to be buried underground, while recycled water release threatens the nature reserve.
It will also cause health risks to students and residents. As stockpiling industrial waste at Pierre De Coubertin Park a chronic respiratory threat for more than 600 Newington Public School students and locals.

To Whom It May Concern,

We have very recently become aware of the Greater Parramatta and Olympic Peninsular water cycle management project.

We have heard that access to Meadow Crescent, Meadowbank, will not be available, but we have not heard for what period of time this will be.

This will have a major effect on car access & parking on the street. With Meadowbank having many apartments, plus both a station and a ferry wharf, parking is already at a premium.

We are self-funded retirees & are very concerned
about the impact this will have on our rental apartment at 14 Meadowbank Crescent, Meadowbank.

If a tenant isn't able to access Meadow Crescent to drive into their garage, we are concerned that we will be unable to rent out our apartment, which will then negatively impact our income.

If people cannot drive into their Meadow Crescent residences, what provisions are being made for residents who will be denied driving access to their garages and allocated parking spaces?

Additionally, if we wanted (or needed) to sell our property, this work will have a negative effect on both valuing this property and, therefore, the sale price.
