To who it may concern,
We, the residents below would like to lodge an objection to the requested amendments for the Proposed Modification 2 - Sealing the Internal Haul Road that Connects the Central Extraction Area and Southern Extraction Area.
THE PROPOSED MODIFICATIONS
Proponent: Champions Quarry 2 Pty Ltd ACN 600 281 061
Address: 1668 Wyrallah Road, Tuckurimba, New South Wales, 2480
Land: Lot 5 / DP1191905
Our objection to the proposal to not seal the internal roads is based on many scenarios the first being it will have a detrimental effects on my home and land as our home is only 300 meters from the quarry central pit boundary and as we have already had excessive dust episodes in the past with the past smaller quarry limits over the last 10 years, so to now increase the traffic tenfold without at least sealing the internal haulage road, and with the onuses of self-regulation of dust suppression being with the quarry management, and with the prospect of this not being sufficiently adhered to will be detrimental to my family's health as well as myself. There are six people living her the youngest being only 2 years old.
In the past we have had windy episodes which have resulted in excessive dusty conditions with week end and or holiday episodes where both the road and extraction areas are being disturbed by strong wind and cannot be watered as there was no staff contactable as it was out of business hours and also being out of work hours there is no quarry work allowed. If a least the internal haulage road is sealed then this should decrease the amount of dust that we may receive on a windy day under unfavourable conditions be it day or night.
Although the quarry is now able to extract 250,000 t per year it is not yet removing anywhere near that amount of product so to not seal the internal roads and then increase the movements to say tenfold of what they are now, which has been far less traffic than the previous quarry licence allowed will disadvantage us greatly.
We choose if possible to use rain water for our domestic needs, if excessive dust was to occur it could render this unusable if not filtered through an extremely fine and expensive ceramic micro filter.
We also run solar panels for our electricity and feel that the occurrence of excessive dust would result in the decrease of electricity production from our panels and an increase in cost to us and more maintenance on our behalf.
We grow our own vegetables and feel that an increase in dust contamination will affect the growth and health of this as well.
The proponent states that on one hand the haulage roads would break up quickly under working condition but states many times in the original proposal that the product is excellent for road use, whereas Lismore City Council's expert witness, on the quarry product, in the earlier Land and Environment Court cases stated that, the product was not of a high standard? So just build the road with better product to a better standard so that they don't deteriorate like other quarries have done.
We urge the Department to not allow this modification and to have the internal haul road sealed to minimise dust.
Yours Sincerely, Christopher Woolley, Kim Woolley, Lachlan Woolley, Gabrielle Woolley, Jessica Wilson and Isabella Woolley.
