Mamre Road Data Centre Campus

This is a horrible idea. Think of all the children in that area, the schools that will no longer have drinkable water for kids who forget their drink bottle on a hot summer day. We don’t need ai for everything. You can do it yourself. This is disgusting to even suggest.

I disagree with the proposal as it will harm the community

I am completely disgusted with the amount of data centres being build in this country. no one should have to suffer living near them from the noise pollution to the polluted water to price increase of electricity. if you care about Australians, you this wouldn't even be something I have to say. Disgusting.

I AM IN STRONG OPPOSITION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MAMRE ROAD DATA CENTRE

Data centres have proven to come at great cost to any and all communities worldwide. They consume large amounts of water, while the water they do happen to leave behind has been proven to be toxic for humans. They generate large amounts of electricity, which, beyond running all day, actually causes the emittance of loud sounds that could damage hearing and general living.
Putting it in an area where not as many people live is just an excuse to forget the harm this will cause to the environment. This will contribute to climate change in ways beyond what is happening now. If this is taking up all the water, it means droughts, which means that bushfires will flourish in the hot months. This is an area that was labelled the hottest place on Earth just last summer, with days that reached 48 degrees and possibly higher. If this is built, it will damage the environment, the community, and its surrounds.
If this continues, you are not thinking of your community at all. Tech corporations do not care about community, animals, or the environment. They care only about profit. If this project is for the 'benefit' of the community, of Australia, what is that benefit if you take away precious resources and damage the environment? If this goes ahead, every bushfire, every 'once in 100 year flood', every loss of precious native wildlife in this area is because of this data centre.

I live in Western Sydney and I am gravely concerned about this project going forward. I believe the environmental impacts of this development will set a devastating norm and although there may be some jobs created, they are not worth these consequences. As the information provided by the developers is limited, my own research has led me to find that this data centre is projected to worsen the urban heat island effect and remove 200+ trees. These consequences alone make me uneasy, as I often struggle in the heat in West Sydney and do not want the temperatures worsened and canopy reduced. I also find it immensely unfair that this data centre will be using Sydney’s drinking water for cooling purposes, when we are in a country where water scarcity and droughts are already a great concern. Please do not allow this project to go forward and worsen the living conditions of those of us living out west.

The building of this data centre is unessasary and costly to the community and planet. We do not need to poison our planet more to make way for a resource sucking technology. We cannot undo any mistakes we’ve made and the it’s disgusting to make these decisions so quickly without truly thinking of the consequences to come. Putting this data cents in western sydney will add daily struggles to the community living there already. If the people living there don’t want this they should have to be the ones suffering from it. Poor air quality. A heat island. The taking up of land that can be used for housing. A terrible development that does not benefit the community or the people of Australia.

We need space for houses

Data centers upset the local ecology and diminish residents’ quality of life. It is unacceptable to bring this to Western Sydney where there is already a lack of infrastructure, resources and support.

As a young person with friends living around the Penrith and Cabramatta suburbs, the broader location of the proposed data centre is of social and recreational significance to me. As such, I am deeply concerned around the possible economic, environmental and social costs associated with the construction and maintenance of data centres, as well as around the lack of transparent investigation and communication surrounding these factors. Having experienced the 2017-2019 drought I am especially disturbed by risks of water scarcity, especially in regard to drinking water, and I know my friends who have gone to schools in the surrounding area are extremely worried about the impact of air and noise pollution, as well as urban heat. I perceive the targeting of Western Sydney in terms of data centre developments as a deeply political and questionable occurrence, reflecting the undervaluing of communities and demographics concentrated in the region. Overall, I strongly oppose the proposed developments.

To whom it may concern,

I vehemently oppose of the building of the Mamre Rd Data Centre Campus development. Many data centres have already been built around the world and there are many case studies where the consequences far outweighed the good. As a community member living in Sydney, I implore you to suspend this development and think more about the environmental and social impacts over helping corporations increase their profits in the short term. There is no planet B.

The local community did not ask for this and they're not getting many benefits from it either. This data centre is power-hungry and consumes 1.2 gigawatts of power and estimated to consume 22.4 million litres of water per year. This will further increase the average Australian's energy and water bills due to the increase in demand. 52 hectares of land is proposed for clearance which affects the native flora and fauna as well as the residents that reside nearby. There are schools, a retirement village, and a church within a 1km radius of the site. Need I say more.

I understand that data centres could also be used to boost tax revenues, however, Australia has such a bad track record of getting multinational corporations to actually pay their fair share of taxes e.g. the Gas and Mining Industry. I have legitimate concerns that the benefits of data centres will flow offshore again, and I ask: How will this development actually benefit Australia and its people?

As a 19 year old girl studying Aerospace engineering at UNSW, we are the future generation of Australia and I strongly oppose the creation of a data centre. As someone who studies engineering I have learnt to value technology and its advancements but AI is NOT IT. Humanity has lived numerous years without the need for AI. We do NOT need more data centres. This data centre will ruin the habitats of so many native animals. Damage our native plants. We have seen how badly data centres in America have negatively impacted local American civilians. Their tap water is UNDRINKABLE. It is polluted with dirt. The noise pollution is awful. We cannot repeat America's mistake. We already have more than 50 data centres. We do NOT need more.

Ai is not only negatively impacting the environment but humanity. We are losing our creativity, some people cannot even write simple emails without the use of AI. People will lose jobs. Big AI corporations like anthropic have been known to scan physcial books and then destroy them. We cannot support corporations who destroy knowledge.

This project is going to decrease the quality of life of the residents and animals living in the area. That the development of AI seems to take precedence over the rights and lives of living beings is unacceptable. Communities should not suffer for AI development, particularly when no amount of 'benefits' can undo the stress visited upon them and the resources stripped from them. AI development is already destroying the environment and the lives of people abroad, it cannot be allowed to continue doing so, and definitely not in Western Sydney.

I strongly object to the proposed data centre in Kemps Creek.

The scale and potential impacts of the development warrent much greater concern, particularly its effects to local residents, environment, and existing infrastructure.

I am deeply concerned that a development of this scale could significantly impact the quality of life and amenities for local and surrounding communities. The proposed centre has the potential to consume 22.4 million litres of water annually as well as release 20 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into our air. The implications of this project are not light, nor are they in any way positive.

I ask the relevant planning authority to err on the side of caution, considering the thoughts of local and widespread community. I hope for humanity to be of the utmost importance in this decision, and that in the upcoming considerations, council recognises the plea and effort your community is making.

This is incredibly harmful to the people who live around the area (and Sydney in general), and the environment. It will do more harm than good.
