• The project will support mining operations in the Hunter, essential for strengthening the NSW economy, by providing greater flexibility and efficiency.
• It will improve efficiency on the rail network, spreading train movements more evenly while only slightly increasing movements from 26 to 28 trains, well below the approved limit of 40.
• There is growing demand for our high quality NSW coal that is expected to continue over the coming decades with the highly respected International Energy Agency forecasting demand for thermal coal across Asia to double by 2040. Increased capacity and efficiency at NCIG’s coal terminal will help our industry meet this demand.
• The modification will not impact compliance with currently approved environmental limits.
• During these uncertain times, the NCIG modification represents a commitment to the Hunter region and to NCIG’s 100 operational employees and numerous site based contactors, that operations will remain strong and sustainable well into the future.
• This project will make sure the NCIG terminal can continue to support our number one export industry which will be vital to secure NSW economic future.
Finally, my business employees 11 people and relies on mining in NSW to sustain incomes for all our families. This project must be approved.

The NCIG coal export terminal is a provider of critical infrastructure to the Hunter Valley Coal Chain and provides significant economic benefit to the state and local communities. The fact the terminal has identified opportunities to do more with the existing infrastructure, within the current footprint is a true credit to those involved.
By increasing the terminals capacity they will be able to handle the instantaneous peaks in throughput demand, alleviating pressure on the rail network, whilst also being able to sustainably accommodate any future export demands through the port of Newcastle.
I would encourage more businesses to adopt a similar approach to identify efficiency improvements to increase their productivity without significant capital investment.

I have worked in the local coal industry since January 1974 and I am an advocate of clean coal technology. I have enjoyed a long career in the coal industry and still am. The coal industry provides a lot of employment in the valley and in turn provides a lot of funds in to local communities and businesses as well as the coffers of the government.
Here is a company that is trying to provide long term operations and employment with out a lot of infrastructure changes which will help towards sustainability, on going employment and support for communities as well as funds to the state and federal governments, which is really important given our current financial situation.
Thank you for the ability to support my industry and all the wealth that it affords to this great state and country.

The NCIG Modification is focused on improving the efficiency of existing infrastructure. This relates to both the operation of the terminal as well as the Hunter Valley Coal Chain. I consider this a key pillar of sustainable development and should be encouraged and supported by the NSW Government as a part of a comprehensive and balanced response to Climate Change risk.

Increase in throughput of the Newcastle Coal Terminal
This Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group project to increase the annual coal throughput at the Newcastle coal terminal is a huge opportunity for the regional communities of the Hunter Region where the investment and jobs that will be generated by this project are desperately needed.
The Project will improve the efficiency of the rail network in NSW.
It will reduce the number of coal trains sent through Sydney and the south coast railway to Port Kembla for the export market. This impacts on all the residents in those areas.
Coal is NSW's most valuable export commodity, with a value of more than $20 billion.
More than 23,000 coalminers in NSW rely on coalmining for their livelihood. There are more than 7,000 local businesses across NSW that are supported by mining.
Coal mining is important to me and my family, our community and NSW. The Project has the support of the local community, local MPs, local Council and local businesses.
The federal government’s tables of multiplier effects shows that more than three times as many indirect jobs are created for every person directly employed in a coal mine.
Coal is Australia’s most valuable export.
The demand for thermal coal in Asia is expected to double by 2040.
The state of NSW benefits from royalties paid by companies that mine coal. This is money that NSW will be able to spend on our hospitals, schools and roads.
Our national, state and local economies relies heavily on coal mining so coal mining benefits all Australians.
Coal from Australian coal mines has ideal qualities and it has fewer impurities, such as sulphur, than coal from other countries such as Asian countries. So the use of Australian coal is reducing pollution, such as sulphur dioxide, on a worldwide basis.
NSW needs to focus on the positive aspects of coal mining and its many benefits so as to not be distracted by ideologically driven anti-mining activists.
We should all be proud of what coal mining is doing and can do in future for Australia, NSW and the Hunter Region.
The Project demonstrates it will not impact compliance with currently approved environmental limits. The benefits from this coal terminal project are immense.
For all of these reasons I fully support the increase of the annual coal throughput at the Newcastle coal terminal.

I would like to submit my support for the NCIG MOD3 – Capacity Increase project. This project will support mining operations in the Hunter, which is essential for strengthening the NSW economy. Even more so now with COVID-19 and the impact this will have on the economy in the future, we need to make sure that we are supporting projects that can strengthen the NSW economy.
The project will bring efficiencies to the rail network allowing for the train movements to be spread out evenly with only the need to increase movements from 26 to 28 trains.
There are a lot of reliable sources that document the growing demand for high quality coal and that this is expected to continue over the coming decades. The increase capacity and efficiency at NCIG’s coal terminal will help our industry meet this demand.
The modification represents a commitment to the Hunter region and to NCIGs 100 operational employees and numerous site based contractors that operations will remain strong and sustainable well into the future.
This commitment and representation of the importance of coal to our region and the NSW economy overall, is a great message for all those in the industry in these uncertain times. With so many of the region being directly or indirectly employed in the coal industry, myself being one of them, the commitment to this project will provide us with confidence in our future.

As a resident of a portside suburb of Newcastle Harbour I would like to register my support for the Mod.3 Capacity Increase at NCIG.
I have full confidence in the existing controls in place regarding noise & air quality to preserve the quality of my family's experience in living close to this industrial site.
The site uses world class dust control & has been very open in sharing information on their activities & performance.
I look forward to enjoying the benefits in employment & other economic activities that this business brings to Newcastle & NSW. This expansion in capacity is a great thing & the submission should be approved.

On behalf of my team at Maddison Safety, we would strongly support the NCIG modification. Right now the Hunter Region, like all other regions in Australia, needs projects like this to strengthen the economy and hopefully increase employment throughout the region.
The flow on effect throughout our region will be enormous supporting many small businesses and hopefully encouraging many more to continue trading.

The coal industry plays an important role within our community and Australia in general and NCIG is also a shinning light within the Newcastle community with glamouros donation to many sporting associations, mental health programs, family programs and many more. NCIG also takes great pride in their business making sure all neighbors surrounding NCIG are not affecting by coal movement, I believe that the capacity increase would only serve as a major positive for not only NCIG but Newcastle and Hunter Valley.
