I would like to provide my support for the proposed changes to the project at NCIG. As an employee of this company I can give a first hand account of the good work that the company does in not only engaging their employees but the community in general. The company actively supports the community through sponsorship and donations to worthwhile organisations within the immediate and broader Newcastle area. NCIG take their position in the community seriously and actively work with residents and business in the area to make sure they are a positive member of the area. The company is a big employer for the region and the project would continue the great work they do to bring employment and support to the Newcastle area.

I write in support of the application to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment for the minor modification of the project approval of Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group to increase the potential operating capacity from 66Mt pa to 79Mt pa.
My support for this request is set out in the reasons below:
1. The Port of Newcastle is the world's largest coal port with exported coal contributing over A$20bn in export earnings for NSW and the Australian economy. As a major coal terminal, NCIG needs to ensure it has the required operating efficiency to continue to serve its valuable export markets.
2. No new infrastructure is required, and no changes to NCIG's environmental limits will apply.
3. NCIG has been operating for over 13 years since 2007, and during that time NCIG has demonstrated its excellent track record of good governance, strict adherence to environmental policies and community engagement. NCIG is also a key employer in Newcastle. The project approval will ensure NCIG is able to achieve maximum operating efficiencies and the sustainability of its business operations into the future.

I trust that the major projects team will take the above comments into account in NCIG's application.
Kind regards
ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AUTHORITY
