The extension of mining operations will deliver quantifiable social and economic benefits to the local community. The operation provides substantial employment opportunities, offering significant and ongoing direct and indirect economic value to a large portion of the community. Local businesses also stand to benefit from sustained commercial relationship with the mine.
The mine continues to show a strong commitment to proactive and meaningful community engagement.
For these reasons, I offer my full support for the extension of the mining operations.

This proposal would allow the extraction of an additional 18.8 million tonnes of thermal coal near Mudgee. It is also critical groundwork for a future Modification 8 expansion, which would extend the mine by a further six years and add an estimated 105 million tonnes of Scope 3 emissions — a combined 45% increase in emissions above current operations (including Modification 6).
This comes despite recent court rulings confirming that climate impacts must be considered in planning decisions, and despite the NSW Net Zero Commission warning that continued coal mine extensions are incompatible with NSW climate targets.

I am in absolute support of the extension of Ulan West.
The coal mining industry around Mudgee is the backbone support for a lot of young families who rely on it for a good and secure income. Without it, so many families would have to leave town to find work which would also mean leaving their support networks. It’s hard enough as it is these days for young families to get by let alone removing the districts largest employing industry.
It is crucial for my family and many others that these mines are allowed to continue operations, it’s also crucial for the Mudgee community.

Ulan Coal Mod 6 extension provides significant benefits to the community and our economy. The project will continue to provide job security for direct and indirect employment within the area. Without Mod 6 extension, Mudgee, Gulgong and surrounding communities will be heavily impacted.
Additionally, Ulan Coal is known for ensuring a safe and reliable operation and its high focus for minimizing environmental impacts.
I strongly support the extension.

I am in support of the Ulan Coal Modification 6. This extension will benefit the Mudgee community and surrounds both directly and indirectly.
I strongly believe that Glencore will adhere to the highest possible standard in minimising any potential environmental impact associated with underground coal mining.

The negative opinion towards coal mining perpetrated within the media is misinformed and should not be the reason that this project is rejected. Rejection of this extension, and/or any further extension, will result in a major economic detriment.

I object to the proposed Mine Modification 6.
Glencore, the operators of Ulan Mine have not provided information on methane emissions as a result of their mining activities.
Their monitoring process of cumulative effects to the local environment is flawed as it it will only be instigated once operations commence
Longwall mining which is the extraction process used by Glencore causes serious disturbance to groundwater flows and subsidence at surface level.
I repeat then my objection to this underground mining extension.

I support the Mod 6 Project, which is vital for Ulan Coal Mines and the surrounding community. This initiative is crucial in ensuring job security for over 650 employees, thereby protecting their livelihoods and providing stability for their families. By continuing operations, Ulan Coal Mines will sustain its significant contribution to the local and regional economy, which is essential for the prosperity of our community.

Importantly, the Mod 6 Project is designed to be environmentally responsible. It does not introduce any major changes to the current environmental and social impacts associated with mining activities. Instead, it requires only minor modifications to existing infrastructure, ensuring that we uphold our commitment to sustainable practices.

The continuation of mining brings job and prosperity to the region. Their contribution to our community is extremely valuable. They provide the apprenticeships and jobs for our community that will continue to build the infrastructure in years to come.

I support this modification as it enables Ulan to utilise existing approved infrastructure to continue mining and coal extraction activities, thereby extending the operational life of the mine. This extension will provide ongoing direct and indirect employment opportunities for local workers and continued support for regional suppliers. Continued operations will also allow Ulan and Glencore to work collaboratively with suppliers and contractors to further improve safety standards and practices across the industry. On balance, the economic, social and safety benefits to the local community and broader region justify approval of this modification.

I am a local resident that supports the Ulan Coal Extension.

On top of the obvious benefits that Glencore and coal in general provides in relation to reliable and affordable energy, it also provides the local community with direct employment and supports local contractors, suppliers, hotels/accommodation, hospitality, retail, community funding & sponsorships.

Coal is a necessary commodity in the transition to green energy and the extension of an established and reputable operation that supports the local community makes more sense than seeking to open new mines elsewhere.

I support the modification of the Ulan West Underground mining extension. Ulan West, operated by Glencore in my experience has always been a diligent and considerate operator of the mine asset adhering to all stakeholder requirements including environmental. Further, the mine provides significant economic benefits for the Mudgee region along with suppliers based elsewhere within NSW.

I firmly believe the Mod 6 extension of Ulan Coal mine to be a positive investment in the local economy and key for keeping the light on through the transition over the remainder of the century to modern renewable forms of energy. The Ulan complex is a vital contributor to the local region, and provides gainful employment to many including myself and family in the area.
