I endorse the attached SCAPS group submission.
I am in the process of building my dream home where it's only 400m from the proposed southern stack. the biggest concern is the stack too close to so many residential houses, and too low in height and there is no filtration being proposed. I strongly object the Northconnect to go ahead without amendment regarding air pollution issue. We've been residents of West Pennant Hills for 12 years, XXXXXXXXX exposure to tunnel exhaust particularly diesel generated fine particles will result in lung disease , asthma, cancer and other health problem. the project at the cost of residents's health and existing right.

I endorse the SCAPS Group's 4 submissions. I understanding the benefit of northconnect , however, south stack is being proposed only 300- 400m from my future home among hundreds of others, I strongly object the proposed unless air pollution issues have been properly addressed. I have respiratory problem and air quality is my biggest concern. I am strongly against the proposal, which exhaust toxic disiel pollutant into air without filtration, It's height and location also need to be changed in view of mitigating enviornmental impact on local residents .

Major Projects Assessment

Dear Director,

This is our very 1st time to build up such a long, monster, tunnel, and we have lots of examples of disaster tunnels that are much smaller- so there are a lot of uncertainties. There is great concern regarding particulate matter, especially the ultrafine particles, that people are calling the asbestos of the 21st century, yet hasn't been modelled or measured properly in this project. We all understand there are still big debates and arguments among those health experts. I think from the experience of asbestos, and using the precautionary principal, we should not put any risk on the public health before we really understand what will happen, especially as there are so many schools, age care centres and hospital nearby.

The better and safer solution is to extend the stack to non-residential area. There are some cost-effective alternatives available for locating the stack in non-residential areas. I have attached some designs for examples. Therefore I request an independent assessment process to be undertaken to assess these alternatives for the stack and portals.

To whom it may concern,

RE: NorthConnex Application Number: SSI 13_6136

I object to the project as described in the EIS. Please find below my submission in response to the exhibition of the EIS for NorthConnex.

I am greatly concerned about the following:

1. That 9km of traffic pollution will be channelled into only two unfiltered ventilation stacks. These two locations will be subjected to a huge increase in air pollutants, essentially each carrying the load of 4.5km of exhaust fumes!

2. That the proposed Wahroonga stack (and shift of air pollutants) is within a kilometre radius of over 9,000 school children, including my six year old son who is an asthma sufferer.

3. That the proposed benefits of the tunnel - easing traffic congestion on Pennant Hills Road, will be greatly overshadowed by the health impact of concentrating this amount of pollution into only two areas.

I propose the following ideas:

1. That Pennant Hills road is modified to be much like the Eastern Distributer. It could be reconstructed to dedicate four lanes of traffic from where the M1 begins at Thornleigh through to the M2 Motorway at West Pennant Hills, with sections of underpasses, tunnels, open road and perhaps even overpasses. Four lanes could remain as is, with access to side streets etc. Air pollution would remain distributed it is now, and traffic congestion would be eased.

2. More ventilation stacks be added along the entire length of the NorthConnex tunnel (at least one stack per km). The stacks need to be filtered and the air quality monitored by an independent organisation.

Thank you for your consideration.

Regards

In addition to my submission I would like to acknowledge the letter of medical evidence opposing a stack in a residential area signed by 260 doctors,
This letter has been endorsed by the AMA.
It has been sent to key politicians relevant to the proposed project.
I would like to add this letter as an appendix to my submission regarding the health impacts of the proposed tunnel and stacks.

I endorse the attached SCAPS Group submissions.
I have been a resident of West Pennant Hills for 18 years and concerned for air pollution because of the NorthConnex proposal.
The adding in of heavy vehicles to already overloaded suburban streets (Akien Road, Oakes Road & Karloon/Eaton Road) during the peak traffic hours is totally unacceptable.

I support the development of the tunnel from the M2 to M1 with amendments to the designed being developed. Specifically, requesting the following actions are undertaken:
* A level (zero gradient) tunnel between M2 and M1 to minimize acceleration and breaking and therefore reduce emissions (as opposed to a rising and falling tunnel between M2 and M1)
* Filtered stacks, so pollutants are significantly reduced and thus reducing the known hazards on people and the environment which is well documented through long-standing and credible research worldwide.
* Serious consideration of the Equilibria Proposal by Peter Georgiades, Principal Equilibria Architecture, which requests amendments to the current tunnel plans to construct the 9km tunnel, so that the tunnel becomes level to reduce emissions, noise and minimize the impact on a highly concentrated area of schools, childcare centres, nursing homes, hospitals and elder care centres - achieved by a 9.8km tunnel and a filtered stack in the industrial area.

In summary, I want:
* A better tomorrow for everyone (and not just a transferring of a serious problem from one residential location to another)
* Responsible design to support the inevitable and required growth in our city, Sydney, NSW, Australia
* A significant improvement to the impact on people and the environment from that which is being developed by the current project design for a rising and falling tunnel between M2 and M1
* People and the environment to be considered ahead of costs and profits.
Many thanks, in anticipation of your support.
Kind regards
