Message
Building a new indoor sports stadium is essential for our community. The current facility is outdated, unsafe, and unable to meet demand. It leaks during rain, overheats in summer, and lacks accessibility for people with disabilities. It is no longer fit for purpose.

A new stadium will provide:

Safety & Reliability – Modern climate control, proper roofing, and ventilation to ensure year-round safe use.

Accessibility – Fully compliant facilities so everyone, including people with special needs, can participate.

Capacity & Versatility – Multiple courts and flexible spaces to accommodate growing demand, school sport, community activities, and regional tournaments.

Addressing Concerns:

Traffic – The site sits next to a major six-lane road with the capacity to absorb event traffic. Parking and transport planning will ensure minimal impact.

Current Site Use – The land is often waterlogged and underused. An indoor stadium will deliver year-round recreation instead of an unreliable field.

Green Space – New, upgraded green spaces are planned as part of the broader Hunter Park development, ensuring the community gains more usable outdoor areas.

Funding – A staged plan links the stadium to housing development revenue, while the stadium itself will generate income from events, memberships, and tournaments.

Flood Risk – Modern stormwater and flood-resilient design will reduce—not increase—local flooding issues.

The Benefits:

Economic Growth – Attracts regional and state tournaments, boosting local businesses and creating jobs during and after construction.

Health & Wellbeing – A safe, inclusive facility that encourages lifelong physical activity and community connection.

Youth Development – Expanded opportunities for training, competition, and personal growth through sport.

Conclusion
This is not just a building—it is an investment in safety, inclusivity, and community pride. The objections raised are either overstated or already addressed through planning. The benefits, however, are undeniable: economic, social, and health outcomes that will serve our community for generations.

It’s time to replace our failing facility with a modern stadium our community deserves.

I do not support the proposed HISC Application No SSD-65595459 as I strongly believe this is not the appropriate location for such an extremely large complex because
the wider community (residents, school children, sports clubs) will lose a large area of green space, which will be gone forever.
there will be major parking issues as there is not sufficient parking available in the proposed development.
I believe there is an extreme safety risk with the design as the entry and exit is one road off Turton Road and if there was a fire hazard or safety risk the entrance/exit could become blocked which is extremely dangerous.
Lambton High School students use this oval daily for sport and PE and moving them elsewhere would not only shorten their sport/class time due to going to another sporting complex it would also be a safety risk.
There would also be major disruptions to Lambton High Students not only during construction but also during HISC games.
Nearby residents would also be disrupted because of trades during construction and players and spectators parking in residential streets.
I attended the HISC Community Engagement at McDonald Jones Stadium on 9/9/25 only to walk away very upset and frustrated as I believe they could NOT provide the answers I was seeking.
I asked how they proposed to fix the flooding problem in the area and was told flood assessment was done on modelling. No one has visited the area during heavy rain to see the extent of water that moves along the drain and the amount of flooding in the local streets. How can modelling realistically be relied upon. The guy said there weren't any safeguards in place only that he can confirm that flooding would not get worse.
I also spoke to another guy regarding lack of parking (especially when the Knights, Jets, Concerts and other events as well as the hockey is on.
He said there were contingency plans in place and people could park at The Entertainment Centre or Wanderers Ground. There is no way players and visitors going to the HISC will park in these far away locations, they will be parking as close to the HISC as possible which will be very unsafe not only for these visitors, but also local residents. Not to mention the volume of noise that will be constantly affecting local residents.
I live closer to Lambton Road which is further away than other people, but I constantly see accidents at the intersection of Hobart and Wallarah Roads and also Lambton and Wallarah Roads. The traffic congestion after Knights and Jets games trying to leave the area will become horrendous if the HISC is approved.
I have attached some photos, which I took on my way home from a Knights game on 24/8/25 along Hobart Road. As you can see there are many cars illegally parked. Approving the HISC would just cause utter chaos.
