My submission is regarding the closure of the western end of Victoria St on the south side of Berry. I understand there are 3 options for Victoria St but Option 1 is favoured. I am in favour of Option 3 where Victoria St still has a two way access.

When the southbound off ramp behind our property, from the roundabout from Kangaroo Valley Road is completed, we would submit that a 2.5m bund be constructed behind our property using unsuitable material excavated. This bund would provide a noise barrier and be more aesthetically and visually appealing from the back of our property, and that of our son's property at 19 Windsor Drive. A planted screen, apart from the existiing gum trees, could then be completed to screen traffic.

as a resident of windsor drive my property backs directly onto the exsisting h/way ,as the new southbound on ramp is to be moved about 10m further away from us the current road surface will be removed and re-vegitated .as i work in the earthmoving industry and currently on the gerringong bypass, knowing that there will be excess spoil ,i would like to make a submission that a 2.5m high dirt bund be built when old h/way is removed behind my property then planted out as i think this would create a cost effective and enviromently a pefect solition for myself and the other residents that back onto this section of the new works for noise and visual purposes.thank you.

Dear Sir / Madam
I strongly object to the destruction that this developement is doing to our area. Trees that are many years old are being destroyed and gullies that is habitat to many species of wild life is being devasted all to help man have an easier access to the south coast. I cannot believe the people who make these decision have any bodies best interest at heart except them selves and there political adgenda. Wake up Australians our country is being decimated for future generations and no body cares or bothers to do anything about it. Mark Simms

I am of the opinion that it is most important for Bupa to have access onto the south bound on-ramp to the highway. The current access to Bupa via Victoria Street and Pepper Farm Drive has safety concerns for the residents of The Arbour especially those living in Pepper Farm Drive.
I support Option 3 proposal for the Victoria Street design options, especially the two way access to/from Kangaroo Valley Road interchange. This will provide the safest access for Arbour residents, other people living in neighbourhood and also people travelling north who require a rest stop at Mark Radium Park

North Street and Albert Street south must be revisited regarding noise levels and height of roadway. This has had very little attention however the bypass runs very close to these homes/residents. Roadway needs to be as far away as possible from this area. Flooding in this area is a primary concern.
Alexandra Street option must include it staying open with two-way access between Queen and Victoria Streets and a southbound ramp south of Victoria Street.
Additional on/off ramps at Woodhill Mountain Road are essential to the effective flow of local traffic.
The redevelopment of the area bordered by south end of North Street and Albert Street and western end of George Street adjacent to the Bypass provides an excellent opportunity for a parkland development / bicycle pathway for the town. There is no such facility in the town and it would be well utilised by many young families.

We reside at 20 Prince Alfred Street, being located on the corner of the highway and Prince Alfred Street.
We offer the following comments on the traffic environmental assessment.
1) As regards Victoria Street design options, the safety of the school children is paramount. Accordingly, we favour closure as per option 1.
2) Adoption of option 1, would, we anticipate substantially increase vehicle usage of Princess Street, for which a traffic volume analysis has apparently not been done.
3) There is a safety issue at and near the intersection of the Highway and Prince Alfred Street, which will be accentuated by increased vehicle useage of Prince Alfred Street. Berry Medical Centre is located at 22 Prince Alfred Street. Numerous patients walk across Prince Alfred Street including parents with babies, children, old and infirm people. Vehicles coming from the north often sweep around the corner from the Highway doing speeds exceeding 50 KPH as they pass by the Medical Centre.

I am concerned at the closure of Victoria Street. This will direct an unreasonably high level of traffic through George St and isolate Mark Radium Park from passing traffic directing it to limited village facilities.
Would it be possible to keep Victoria Street open offering access to southbound traffic travelling to Nowra . If the present highway was retained on the existing alignment it could not only serve access for southbound traffic but also the residence almost opposite Hitchcock's Lane and the high care accommodation centre, BUPA.
I believe that to close Victoria Street will result in the Mark Radium Park facilities being almost completely redundant and thence ignored by Shoalhaven Council which currently maintains then to a high standard. I make this observation as co-ordinator of volunteer parkcarers who are responsible for a degree of maintenance of the Park and have concern for its future.
I thought the video presentation of the By-pass as it applies to Berry an excellent production. Congratulations.

I wish to comment on the options for Victoria Street in Berry.
I prefer that Victoria Street remain open as it is now. Victoria Street is an ideal route for citizens of Berry living on the southern side of Queen St to use when travelling to Nowra. It has been the main option for citizens travelling south for many years & as a long term resident, I can't recall any serious accidents on this road. It is a wide road well regulated with Stop Signs & speed limits near the school.
In recent years there have been three large residential developments in The Arbour, The Grange & the BUPA Nursing Home all of which open onto lower Victoria St. It is convenient & safe for residents & employees of these establishments simply to drive down to the highway.
If Victoria St is closed near Mark Radium Park then all that traffic plus traffic from Windsor Drive & Victoria St residents will head back into Berry with the majority no doubt using George St to access the highway. If I lived in the part of town then that is the route I would take. I wouldn't drive down to Edward St as I would be unnecessarily adding to my journey.
George St is not of the same standard as Victoria St & the residents would be subjected to a massive increase in traffic. Edward St has that wooden bridge which can accommodate local traffic but would struggle with the projected increase.
Finally there is Mark Radium Park which is so popular with the travelling public. Council has recently sealed the access road & the facilities are first class. Blocking off Victoria St will deny travellers of a pleasant place to stop & revive.

I support Option 3 - keeping Victoria Street open. It is important to keep this street open as it allows for travellers, e.g. those with carvans, camper trailers and campervans, to easily take a rest at Mark Radium Park, rather than having to negotiate their way around Kangaroo Valley Rd to get to the park.

Case for Option 3 - Victoria Street open two-way ramp:
1) It would appear that the only argument for closure of Victoria Street could be for the residents of that street without consideration for the rest of the town and the amount of traffic that will be using the Queen Street roundabout
2) There needs to be two exits South in case of a serious accident blocking the other exit
3) It doesn't make sense to force traffic travelling South from the most densely populated part of Berry, back towards the town.
4) A local 2 way street adjacent to the Mark Radium park would provide ready access to the Queen Street roundabout and would not impact on the amenity of the park

I support the by-pass proposal, but I strongly reject Option 1 regarding blocking the exit from Victoria Street. Victoria Street is mainly used by residents who live there and on streets running off it left and right. It currently provides easy access to and from Nowra, the major town in the Shoalhaven. I understand that direct access to Victoria Street from Nowra will have to be curtailed but I can see no logical reason for blocking access from Victoria Street to an on-ramp to the Highway SOUTH.
Regarding Mark Radium Park, this facility is occasionally used by traffic passing through Berry. It is rarely used by Berry residents. When the by-pass is in place I expect the park will be used even less frequently.
In conclusion, I regard Option1 closing off Victoria Street is needlessly depriving many Berry residents of an existing and useful facility. I support Options 2 or 3 with a preference for 2.

Of the three options for Victoria st. Berry I would stongly oppose Option 1 .I travel regularly to Nowra by bus for shopping and medical appointments and option 1 would curtail bus access from Victoria St to the highway.
My preference would be Option 2 which allows access and does not encroach a lot into Mark Radium Park.
However I could live with Option 3.

Between Berry northern interchange and Berry southern interchange the proposed highway curves back to align with North Street. This has a serious effect - because it moves closer to North Street the earth berm used to shield Berry from the highway is closer than it needs to be and the views to the hills north of Berry will be obscured. This is an important factor in the visual amenity of Berry. I asume that this was done to protect the "Miller's" dairy farm, however this is no longer the case as it is not a working dairy. It is more important for Berry to retain the view to the hills as far as possiible and this can be done by moving the highway away from North Street as far as possible.
I propose that the bridge over Woodhill Mtn Rd be adjusted slightly so that the route to Rawlings Lane be straightened, thereby moving the highway a small distance away from North Street. This will enhance views to the north and remove an unnecessary curve in the higjhway.

We refer to the Berry Southern Interchange and specifically the Victoria St Options.
We support and prefer the option to cul-de-sac Victoria St and provide access to our property from this cul-de-sac. (Option 1)
1. This minimises loss of area of Mark Radium Park.
2. This provides a quiet 'precinct' adjacent to the Arbour and the Grange.
3. This appears to be the cheapest option.
4. This maintains and improves our connection with the town.
5. The other option we have seen involving an underpass under the hwy and a much longer access road to Huntingdale Park is unsuitable for us. We need access of 4.4m height for our work truck and others. Also the underpass would be prone to flooding in periods of heavy rain (common in the area), leaving us unable to egress or access our property. This appears to be a much more expensive option.
6. We are aware that there may be a suggestion of extending Queen St as a two way road to south of our property. Why spend funds on this and effectively spread the impact of the southern interchange over a wider footprint.

As a resident if Victoria St.,I Wish to sronglyl urge that the ridiculous proposal to close Victoria St(option one) be abandoned. The proposal would hinder quick access for emergency services to an area which already has an overabundance of elderly folk ,a situation made worse by the advent of theGrange,The Arbor and BUPA.Traffic would greatly increase in George Edward ,Princess and Albany sts which were not designed to carry heavy truck s and heavy volumes_Take a look at thedreadful state of existing surfaces-The road cambers .Parking and residents wellbing are further problems apparently ignored. I strongly support otion 3 as the most effective and least disruptive. Adequate provision can be made under option 3 for walking and cycleways and access to Mark Radium Park is maintained

I oppose the RMS's decision to recommend the closure of Victoria Street. My preferred option would be a two way local road that links Queen Street to the western end of Victoria Street. Approving my preferred option would not impact the nearby park and will only increase access for emergency services to the southern retirement communities in addition to better dispersing local traffic movements. I would like this objection to be considered prior to approving the current recommended solution.

I write to support Option 3 which keeps Victoria Street open with a two way road from Queen Street to Victoria Street with direct entry then to the access ramp to the freeway. This then provides desired alternative access to the south from Berry and avoids the potential congestion at the Queen Street roundabout.
