On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022. WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

I can only imagine what the impact would be to families who have been in the region for generations if it is not approved to continue mining. But the impact doesn't stop with the people directly employed by MTW: in 2013 alone, the company I worked for spent over $188 million with local businesses in the Upper Hunter. Without the continuation, impacts will be felt right across the Hunter region.

There are a large number of people whose livlihood rely on the mine remaining viable with continued operations. Not only the 1300 people directly impacted if the mine was to stop operations but also many others who would be impacted if these people and their families needed to move to other areas.

I am very confident being in project department, that Rio Tinto is committed not to impact the community or environment and spending huge amount of money on that to keep this mine viable. As per latest survey, people started understanding the real economic benefit of the mine not only to the country but also to NSW economy. I have an young family and have mortgages and other educational commitment for my children and hence i request this extension approval to be done at the earliest possible time to avoid huge job losses. I am very sure it is not only the 1300 jobs affected but will indirectly affect lot of other people including health, manufacturing and housing markets as well.
I request NSW Government and PAC to approve this application by Warkworth at the earliest.

Warkworth Continuation Project is essential for local communities to survive. Not only are local people, but local businesses also benefit from the business.
Coal and Allied have a excellent track record for protecting the environment while also considering communitiy expectations that are beyond statutory requirements.
At 8.2% royalty, this is also a large economic loss to the state government - schools, infrastructure and health.

Whatever your standpoint for the future of mining in australia, we still have a really large need for the thermal coal produced by MTW. Riotinto works with, and supports the local community in the NSW rural region and i really hope that they continue being able to operate, so that the locals and families directly affected by the mine can continue to have stability and security in thier futures.
