Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

Dear Sir,
I would like to register my support for the approval of the continuation of the Mount Thorley Warkworth Open Cut Mine.
This operation is a well run local employer of many thousands of people both working directly for Rio Tinto and for support businesses in the hunter valley right down to local corner stores and restaurants. If this business were not to get the approvals they require there would be many consequences for the local community upon its closure, support businesses would fail local mum & dad proprietors of newsagents, takeaway food stores, and up to supermarkets and car dealerships, etc would then be much less profitable. All of the people who lose their jobs as direct employees or support business employees will have little prospect of new employment in the region and will move away to find work. Less people equals reduced services and staff at local doctors surgeries and hospitals and so it goes on.
After all is said and done, these same people who oppose the continuation of this local business which has been operating responsibly for over 30 years will be saying where has everyone gone, why has the local cinema closed, why aren't there as many doctors now, why do I have to travel to Newcastle for various medical treatments that used to be here locally? They will be putting their hands out to the government to subsidise these services.

The morale of the local community is low due to the number of redundancies we are seeing and hearing about of late, imagine losing another 1300 jobs. Singleton and surrounding suburbs needs mining to continue, not only for those people directly impacted by mining, but for all other local businesses, whether it be your favourite coffee shop, the hair dressers, your local butcher, they are suffering too. The value of our properties is at an all-time low. Without mining - this town is dead, really dead. Save MTW, Save the future of the next generation!

This application will ensure the continual employment of over thousand people for the Hunter Valley. Not only does this impact the local economy, but also the families that will be affected. I say to these people objecting - did they decide to take up residence after the mine had started or are they just thinking of there own political agendas.

I work for a contracting company that supply's earth moving machinery to Rio Tinto at Warkworth and I am employed to service and maintain this machinery. My wife and I live local and we both work in the mining industry. I believe if this extension does not get approved it will have a major impact on my life and all the communities in the Hunter Valley

My business in heavily relient on workers and all associated workers of mtw. Currently due to the downturn in the economic climate of this area my business has seen a reduction of around 50%. If this expansion does not go through I feel that I will be forced to close my doors as will many other local businesses and as I am a single self supporting 60 year whose chances of gaining employment are slim to none the future looks dire without the expansion

I support the Warkworth Continuation Project. In my experience MTW works really hard to monitor and manage all environmental impacts. They engage daily with the local community to help them and to address concerns. I think they will continue to improve their performance in these areas and at the same time make a significant financial contribution to the local and state economy.

The people employed at this mine need this extension and so does the community . Where will 1300 people find other work around here when everyone is putting off secure the future for this mine give the approval now . These mining towns around here are going to be ghost towns if someone doesn't act fast . Why should we have to leave the towns we've grown up in and move away with our family's . Give it the green light 👍

I support the application for Mount Thorley Warkworth mine to continuation its operations. As a resident of the Hunter Valley we need this type (and other) industry for us all to survive. By approving this application it gives hope to my family and the community going forward into the future. My children look for apprenticeships and other type of work opportunities that a mine like this provides. These work opportunities are not always at the actual mine site, many supporting business rely on the continuation of the mine, without this mine continuation being approved we lose these opportunities. In addition we lose the sense of community that such a large employer brings to the town. Sporting groups, community groups, not-for-profit groups which so many people are reliant on are supported by people who are work at this mine and supporting in businesses. It is essential that this mine continues into the future, our families which make up the community and bring life to the community depend on it.

I support the continuation of Mt-Thorley Warkworth mine (MTW), which has operated for some 30 years supporting the local community & businesses alike. The mine extension approval is critical for the ongoing employment of 1300+ employees & benefits to our region. Mining in the Hunter Valley area is well estabilished, concentrated & supported, lets hope this continues - I support 100%.

We have already started to see the domino effect within the local and broader community with the downturn of the mining industry,
without the approval of Warkworth's application to continue we will see a devastating lose of jobs, from not only this mine but numerous businesses.
So many families rely on this industry for their income and job security, we need to support our mining industry for a strong future.

I have worked closely to Mount Thorley warkworth for a number of years and have witnesses first hand the work that has gone into ensuring that the best applications are put forward. That means, the least impacts, greatest benefits and a strong futrure for its 1300 workers.

MTW has been part of the community for more than 30 years and to say that mining has no place in teh Hunter is like saying snow does not belong on the Alps.

MTW's workers are part of the community and they spend at local businesses, place their children in local schools, use local mechanics, and buy food from local supermoarkts. The community that depends on MTW and the 1300 workers and their families that depend on the mine need a certain future. So does the Hunter. Please make this happen.

I am making this submission in support of extending the Mount Thorley Warkworth Mine. Mines in the Hunter Valley should not be looked upon as the enemy. Without them I suspect many of the smaller towns would become ghost towns. It is already apparent what job losses at other mines have done in the area. When we moved here it was almost impossible to get a rental and now you can take your pick. 1300 more jobs is too many to be lost, and it is not only those 1300 who will feel the effects from this, it will be widespread and devastating.

The rising Australian unemployment rate is very concerning.
We need to protect as many jobs as possible so that people can have the dignity of work.
This mine employs 1300 people and I support anything that supports jobs and Australian workers and their families.

* I support mining jobs in Singleton, a town with a proud history of mining and a strong future if the Mount Thorley Warkworth continuation proceeds.
* There have already been too many job losses in mining over the past 12 months and these projects should be approved to secure employment for more than 1,300 people that rely on these mines for their income to support their families.
* I support the economic benefits that mining brings to the Hunter and the state.

Directly, 1300 jobs rely on the extension of Mt Thorley Warkwork, however a far greater number of indirect jobs will be affected if the propsal was not to be approved. Contractors, employees, families, mining and non-mining related industries and the community will suffer a great loss. There will no longer be a Singleton community. Mining, farming and the wineries can all co-exist and keep this region successful, happy and thriving.

the mine provides for the economic benifit to the community. what does bulga provide toward the commuinity.
how is this any different from other mines that are as close if not closer to singleton.
the bulga residents have had there opportuinity to work in the mines and retire only to turn around and complain about the very mine they worked at
the needs of the many out weight the needs of the few
