On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022. WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

My family will be directly affected if the mine was to close.
The Singleton community relies on the support from Mount Thorley with local sporting clubs and schools likely to suffer.

Although being a Rio Tinto mine site its the local people that proudly run the show and fight hard to keep the great working conditions and family friendly roster. Its a way of life and a passion for these workers and the company has no choice but to lead the way for this hard working mob to ensure that the 1300 directly employed have a long term future in the Hunter Valley because sadly if Mt Thorley/Warkworth wasn't there neither would a fair portion of its workers, there simply wouldnt be enough local jobs.
The mine site is crucial to the local people and the local economy.
Im proud to say I work there knowing that most of the earth we turn on one side of the pit for its coal gets laid back on the other side and the rehabilitation process gets under way. we do take from the earth but we do care for the earth. The misconception that miners rape and pillage mother Earth for a dollar needs to end. We do take from the her but we care for how we leave her.
Mt Thorley/Warkworth is serious about its Environmental obligation and puts it before production often stopping everything due to dusty conditions or the noise levels during the evening. People probably dont realise the lengths that the workers go to ensure the job is done in a professional manner that would least disturb the surrounding townships where, might I add, lots of these miners grew up in and/or currently live.
Mt Thorley/Warkworth is more than just a coal mine, its a lifeline for 1300 local people and their families. We love our job and the Hunter Valley and wish to stay here and be proud to be apart of this beautiful part of the country and local community.
Please support this application, I can assure you with deep sincerity from the thousands of people directly and indirectly employed there that you would be making the right decision.
Thank you

Around 1300 jobs including mine are directly effected by the outcome of this approval not to mention the countless numbers associated with other business which are valued suppliers to MTW.
i love my work, my work mates and most importantly love living in the hunter valley. My fears and that of my family and fellow workmates is that if this approval is not giving resulting in a significant downsizing at MTW what is going to happen to us and the hunter valley.
The answer is fairly simple and significant. The majority will have to relocate to find work to live !!!!. As from what I can see the hunter currently is not in an economic position to support those that are unfortunate to have lost there jobs from MTW.
For my family which is myself, my wife and 2 year old son it would me a relocation probably to Queensland were there are jobs going. This is something that we a dreading if this approval is not given. We have established our selves as members of the hunter as well as being required to remove all the investment we have made such as properties in order to finance our relocation for work.
please carefully consider and approve the extension for MTW for the workers sake but more importantly for the sake of the future of the Hunter and our KIDS

* There have already been too many job losses in mining over the past 12 months and these projects should be approved to secure employment for more than 1,300 people that rely on these mines for their income to support their families.
* I support the economic benefits that mining brings to the Hunter and the state.
