Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

I fully support RTCAs proposed extension of MTW, the benefits social, economic and otherwise are an integral necessity for the sustainable future of the greater hunter community and NSW in general, and far out weigh the concerns of the vocal minority who oppose the proposal for reasons that in my opinion are self serving and not in the interests of the said greater community.

Keep the mine open, extend the mine, keep many many workers in jobs and in return the area will continue to be a great place to live, work and play. The mine has done many great things for the community....the people living there are supportive and need to continue to live in a wonderful area. Too many industries are no longer in Australia....gone forever, don't let this be another disappoint for hard workers of Australia.

I am a fourth generation mineworker from the hunter valley coalfields with 34 years experience in the industry. The expansion of the Mount Thorley Warkworth Mine must go ahead as it not only supports 1300 jobs but is a vital link in the sustainability of our local communities.Research has shown for every 1 mineworker there are 4 other persons indirectly employed. Our local economy has depended upon the mining industry to survive and prosper for over 100 years. I believe it is important to our economy that expansion of such mine projects will continue to support generations of people like myself and my family in the hunter.

I like many other families, have a morgate and kids and are trying best to manage our lives and our futures. The aproval for the Warkworth mining extension will support many local families and businesses and allow for my kids to grow up knowing a secure future exists. Our family supports many of the local businesses from the supermarket to the servo, the butcher shop to the pizza shop. Without the Warkworth extension these shops and many others will be impacted causing a financial ripple throught the area that will severly impact many families futures. I urge you to support and approve the Warkworth Mining extension.

1300 jobs depend on Mount Thorley Warkworth which has been part of the Singleton community for more than 30 years.
My family will be directly affected if the mine was to close.
The Singleton community relies on the support from Mount Thorley with local sporting clubs and schools likely to suffer.

Yes im all for the extension of MTW, without the extension approval it would mean the loss of up to 1300 jobs, and mine being one of them. To me personally we would have to sell up almost instantly and move away, meaning no money spent in the town where we live, that mite not sound like much but times that by 1300, and that's just our mine site alone, so please put this extension through to help all of us.

Yes we need this extension passed through , otherwise it will mean that my family will have to move out of where we are living now, not only that but for the peace of mind of all the workers up there, they just don't know where there future is heading with no certainty on there future at the moment. My husband would have to scout around looking for another job, and at this time it won't be too easy too find one. Please help us get this extension passed for the safety and future of our husbands, wives ,,daughters , sons and all of the people that work there.

After having worked my way from one side of the country to the other I have been in open pits mining now for 7 years and have literally met hundreds maybe even thousands of fellow workers from all walks of life in the mining game but it wasnt until I touched down in the Hunter Valley and started working at Mt Thorley/Warkworth I felt a passion among its workers about the livelihood mining provided and the deep history intrenched within.
Although being a Rio Tinto mine site its the local people that proudly run the show and fight hard to keep the great working conditions and family friendly roster. Its a way of life and a passion for these workers and the company has no choice but to lead the way for this hard working mob to ensure that the 1300 directly employed have a long term future in the Hunter Valley because sadly if Mt Thorley/Warkworth wasn't there neither would a fair portion of its workers, there simply wouldnt be enough local jobs.
The mine site is crucial to the local people and the local economy.
Im proud to say I work there knowing that most of the earth we turn on one side of the pit for its coal gets laid back on the other side and the rehabilitation process gets under way. we do take from the earth but we do care for the earth. The misconception that miners rape and pillage mother Earth for a dollar needs to end. We do take from the her but we care for how we leave her.
Mt Thorley/Warkworth is serious about its Environmental obligation and puts it before production often stopping everything due to dusty conditions or the noise levels during the evening. People probably dont realise the lengths that the workers go to ensure the job is done in a professional manner that would least disturb the surrounding townships where, might I add, lots of these miners grew up in and/or currently live.
Mt Thorley/Warkworth is more than just a coal mine, its a lifeline for 1300 local people and their families. We love our job and the Hunter Valley and wish to stay here and be proud to be apart of this beautiful part of the country and local community.
Please support this application, I can assure you with deep sincerity from the thousands of people directly and indirectly employed there that you would be making the right decision.
Thank you

I strongly support the submission on the grounds that the economic value to Singleton, which is my community and the surrounding communities is invaluable. Many businesses are struggling in this current downturn and if this extension doesn't proceed many will go under. I also would lose my job and more than likely would need to relocate my family elsewhere.

It is good that we are submitting another application, as the future of mining and the secureity of the workforce needs to be secured to maintain the viability of surrounding comunities and supporting companies.

The expansion of the Warkworth mine will be very good for the Newcastle/Hunter area.It will bring jobs back to the area, which is suffering from high unemployment due to the mining boom ending. My family and the people of the hunter need this mine expansion for our empolyment . If the mine closes it wont just effect 1300 Rio tinto workers but thousands of contractors and thier families which work for companies supplying the hunter mines.

My husband and I work at MTW and we need this extension to survive. If the mine closed we would lose our house and sell most of our possessions to live. Our son is also a boiler maker whose company makes their living off our mine. Singleton businesses would close and the domino effect would be drastic. MTW is a great place to work who contributes to the hunter valley in a positive way. Please give us a future.

As an employee at MTW I strongly urge the approval of the extension currently under review.

Around 1300 jobs including mine are directly effected by the outcome of this approval not to mention the countless numbers associated with other business which are valued suppliers to MTW.

i love my work, my work mates and most importantly love living in the hunter valley. My fears and that of my family and fellow workmates is that if this approval is not giving resulting in a significant downsizing at MTW what is going to happen to us and the hunter valley.

The answer is fairly simple and significant. The majority will have to relocate to find work to live !!!!. As from what I can see the hunter currently is not in an economic position to support those that are unfortunate to have lost there jobs from MTW.

For my family which is myself, my wife and 2 year old son it would me a relocation probably to Queensland were there are jobs going. This is something that we a dreading if this approval is not given. We have established our selves as members of the hunter as well as being required to remove all the investment we have made such as properties in order to finance our relocation for work.

please carefully consider and approve the extension for MTW for the workers sake but more importantly for the sake of the future of the Hunter and our KIDS

For myself and co-workers at MTW, the continuation of Warkworth is critical. This is not only for our own future and our families futures, but for the ongoing prosperity of the local community and the wider Hunter Valley that service and support our industry. Warkworth should continue.

* I support mining jobs in Singleton, a town with a proud history of mining and a strong future if the Mount Thorley Warkworth continuation proceeds.
* There have already been too many job losses in mining over the past 12 months and these projects should be approved to secure employment for more than 1,300 people that rely on these mines for their income to support their families.
* I support the economic benefits that mining brings to the Hunter and the state.
