Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

Note: Only enforcements undertaken by the Department from March 2020 will be shown above.

I have worked at MTW for the past 5 years now and rely on my job to support my young family and to pay my mortgage.
With out mines in the Vally a lot of family's will be with out jobs and will have to leave the area wich will have a negative affect on so many other business in the area.
MTW has been operating for 30 years responsibly and I believe still do all they can to minimise the impact on our neighbours. Not extending the life if the mine would be a huge mistake for the whole of the hunter area.

Warkworth Coal Mine provides great benefit to its employees, suppliers, the local community and the NSW economy. The mine uses best practice operating procedures and technologies to prevent any adverse impact on the local environment. The Warkworth Continuation Project should be approved for the overall good.

I disagree with the way about the process rio tinto took for the extension but I strongly agree with the extension in principal far too many jobs at stake not just of the direct employees but local contractors, suppliers and other supporting business to the local communities as well.

With the current climate of mining at the moment and vale and bhp shedding jobs we can't afford to loose another mine. My family rely on my income from Mtw to survive.

I support the extension of warkworth mine. It employees many people and helps a lot of small towns in the area survive.

We need the mines to continue to prosper for the benefit of this town and surrounding towns. I have seen the towns in the Hunter slowly dying off with the continual loss of jobs. This does not only effect the miners and their families but also the lives of people involved in all sectors of the towns. It really hard to have lost a business and now see more businesses closing. People leaving will have a huge impact on towns. Please really think about what you are doing before you ruin more people's lives. Maybe we all need to look at what the mines have done for us as a society.

Dear NSW Government, I support the extension of MTW 110% it is a large supporter of jobs in the Hunter Valley area which we dearly need.I have previously worked at MTW for some 7 years as a contractor and a permanent employee a great place to work, I now work in the engineering industry here in Maitland which relies on MTW and other mines for on going repair work (Employment). In the last year or so we have seen the slow down in the coal industry and have seen the affects first hand with lay offs not good for those employees and the community as a whole. Please consider my submission and think about the benifits for whole Hunter Valley community it would bring if the extension went ahead. Thank You

The closure of this mine will directly impact on not only families but the community and wider community. I hate to think what will happen if 1300 employees lose their jobs, the impact on this would be devastating. My own family would be impacted and with young children to provide for this would make it extremely difficult and heartbreaking for the family. The impact on the wider community would be felt in a major way also.
This mine must continue to operate for many more years to come

I am currently employed at MTW, I have built a new home and have all my family here in the hunter valley, this extension not going through will require me to pack up my family and to follow work elsewhere, the hole is already in the ground why not keep this one instead of making others elsewhere!!

Mt Thorley Warkworth mine is a vital part of the Hunters economy that provides not only 1300 jobs on site but countless more in the wider community. Granting MTW's continuation will ensure a prosperous future for the communities that surround the mine by way of employees spending there wages in those communities thus creating more employment
In my opinion there is no reason not to approve this application , the Hunters future is important to everybody involved in mining or not .

1300 jobs depend on Mount Thorley Warkworth which has been part of the Singleton community for more than 30 years. I can only imagine how tough it will be for families who have been in the region for generations if the extension is not approved. The impact doesn't stop with the people directly employed by MTW: in 2013 alone RTCA spent over $188 million with local businesses in the Upper Hunter. Without the continuation of mining, impacts will be felt right across the Hunter region and in other locations we support the mining effort from"

I support the appilication for future mining acitivities to be conducted by the Warkworth Continuation project. It is vital for the employment and benefits that this project brings to the local community of Singleton. Warkworth through Coal and Allied have been a major contributor to Community projects over many years and their past performance in this area should be recognised and thus supported by the Community through a fast and positive approval of the project.
