Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

Although not based locally we work closely with this mine.
Our busniess has recently undergone significant transformation and if MTW was to close down, our busniess and team will greatly feel the effects . This will advertantly lead to our business also scaling down with redundnacy of the personnel attached to providing service to this operation resulting.
The impact of this business closing is felt right across the industry directly, not just those locally in the Hunter Region.
Job's Multiplier 1300 Jobs lost at the mine+ hundereds more indirectly.

I support the warkworth continuation project for the sake of myself and my family and the local community. I have been working at mount thorley warkworth for 3 years and had moved from Brisbane, I earn approximately $140.000 per year and would spend approximately 60% of my wage in the local area,
Including just building a house ( supporting the building industry) Restaurants, super markets, clothing shops, butchers and grocers supporting the local farming communities, My local Garage where I get my car serviced.
My Wife also works at a local Motel who often have mining contractors stay for weeks while they work doing shutdowns on heavy equipment in the mines.
So I see it as a lot of money filtering through to support the wider Hunter Valley.

MTW is a well run operation, and makes a significant contribution to the Hunter Region through Royalty Payments, direct employment of 1300 workers, and trade with local businesses for provision of supplies and services.

Even the most conservative economic analysis shows the overwhelming net contribution that coal mining makes to the region and the state. Roughly 10% off all coal exports through Port Waratah come from the MTW complex, so the application to extend the mine's life is no trivial matter.

Granting the mine life extension will be a vote for common sense.

The continuation of this project means job security for so many people, people like my husband who provides for our family. It is not only the workers within this mine who are at risk of losing their jobs but also so many local businesses both big & small. It will have a domino affect, once it slows down, other businesses will close, the population in the area will diminish, the schools will lose children which will in turn have an affect on teachers required - when will it stop, how many people will be affected before someone puts a stop to it. Please help mining stay a part of our future!

The MTW leases have been mined responsibly for some 30 years. With the community requirements for health, safety and environmental standards increasing over that period.
Coal & Allied have been part of the Hunter community for more than 100 years providing coal for power, royalties for the NSW Government, export sales to long term trade partners, income for workers and supporting businesses. The final stage of the mine can be mined sustainably and the land returned to alternative ongoing productive use. Do not let this valuable resource be forfeited by short-sighted opinions. The project should be approved with satisfactory enviromental, health and safety standards agreed. Our resources can benefit not only the Singleton community, but also all citizens of NSW and ultimately all Australians. Every economically viable resource project adds to our economic strength, our standard of living and what we are able to do to provide international aid for developing countries and aid in times of emergencies and recovery from natural disaster. Think globally and ensure this project is approved.

The extension of this mine is imperative for not only the mining industry but for the surrounding towns that rely on the mining industry to keep them going. If the extension was denied it would be a great loss to workers, their families and the economy in the Hunter Valley.

My husband works at mt thorley warkworth mine. He loves his job. We have 5 children. The stress of not knowing if his job is secure is starting to take it's toll. Being uncertain about what the future holds for the mine is terribly stressful for all involved. We have quite a few friends with families who also work there and the pressure is getting to them too. It's not just the workers and their families but anyone or business who is directly involved. If the extension does not go ahead thousands of people in the hunter will be affected the domino affect will be catastrophic. Please pass the extension our livelihood depends on it.

I am in favor of this expansion going ahead as it is crucial for not only myself as I am employed there but also the local people, businesses, and in a broader scale the financial well being of NSW. Without the ongoing employment of over 1300 people as well as countless flow on jobs the Hunter area would be devastated by the loss of this many jobs considering the amount that has already be lost in the current down turn in mining. We can already see this having an effect on local businesses with shops closing due to a loss of trade associated with this down turn. I know this as my wife has already lost her job due to the down turn.
NSW cannot afford to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue if this doesnt go ahead. Every one in the state will suffer as there will be less money for hospitals, roads, police and education, just to name a few. The main nay sayers of this expansion arrived long after the mine opened and knew full well that we were there and now they want to complain. It would be like me moving to Mascot then complaining about the aircraft noise. Other who complain dont even live i the area and this expansion would not affect them. If fact they would be the ones to benefit from the extra money flowing into the NSW coffers. I have spoken to a number of neighbours myself and they are all for the expansion and if fact a number of them work there.
This expansion needs to go ahead, not only for me but for the people of NSW. The benefits far outweigh any negatives the nay sayers dredge up every time something like this seeks permission to go ahead.
I strongly support this proposal.

mount thorley warkworth is my place of work, it is my families source of income as well as alot of other people in the hunter community. the closure of this mine will heavily affect my family and the broader community. i believe the mine and the community can work together so we can all have a outcome that can work for us all. we talk alot about the negative affects the mine may have on the nearby community, no one talks about the affects the closer may have on the families that depend on this place of work. this makes me very nervous.

We need this expansion to keep our jobs. As high tax payers. Without these job at mto mtw and drayton there is enough tax and royalties to support the government . Plus the flow on effect on the town in the last 2 years there has been huge shops shutting. Businesses closing by the week.

It would be great for the life of Warkworth Mine to extend as my family and my work mates families depend on it so our children can be given the best opportunities
Me being a mechanic at the mine can assure the local community that I will do my bit to be a good neighbour, always consider others and have a positive attitude towards maintaining & improving the environment we share.

I strongly believe the Warkworth extension should be approved. I have lived in the Singleton community for the past 20 years and have seen the positives of the mining industry such as community benefits, local employment and career opportunities for high school students. I hope that my own children may be able to benefit from the mines by gaining employment in the industry.

I have worked at Mt Thorley/Warkworth and it is very concerning to see workers stressed about there employment and them wondering if they will have a job soon.

Local businesses are struggling due to mining downturn and this will worsen if 1500 people are out of work.

Singleton its time to be proud of the mining industry and to stand together to keep our community strong.

The continuation of this mine means everything to me and my friends, moving to the hunter over 2 years ago almost everyone one i know here works in the mining or related industry. From raising families to owning properties these people are set up here, its their life. At the moment me and my friends have no job security, having mortgages on two properties i am very worried and its safe to say i am hanging on as tight to my money as possible at the moment. Not only would the denial of this extension, and fellow mines have a major impact on the hunter but the carry on effects would be massive. Looking at the situation at hand as one employee what the nation has to miss out from my employment is just a waste. Not only does my income flow into the hunter but also it is what is paying for my investments on the mid north coast including plans to build on my vacant block, which have been put on hold due to lacking job security. At mtw i work as a part of the team looking after the rehab and i as an Australian who loves this country is more then happy with what we are achieving.
